Rollei 40/2.8 LTM is highly recommended,
Whether colour, black and white, street photography, humanities is also very good.
It is a practical and versatile all-around lens, the only drawback may be F2.8
If you like Zeiss, HFT colour you must have a try…
I like this lens more than Minolta/Leica 40/2, Summaron 35mm F2.8...

Rollei 40mm f/2.8 HFT Sonnar LTM — Rollei 35s under digitization

That's lovely! And a very nice review!

I've been enjoying the Rollei 35S with that Sonnar 40/2.8 HFT lens for many many years, it would be a delight to use on Leica M film or digital, or even my digital CL with the APS-C format.

And it's nice and compact... 🙂

thank you for posting!

I sometimes use the Rollei 35/2.8 Sonnar. It is an excellent lens overall. Mine is not for the Rollei camera but it came to me as a lens for Leica. Is it the same lens?

I remember someone at RFF suggesting to me not to take this lens and the Pentax 43mm 1.9 ltm with me on some trip because "these are rare lenses and difficult to replace".

I think its getting hard to find the Rollei 40mm in good shape. They seem to be suffering from haze now, a lot of them, and the mechanics of the barrel is also suspect, much like the early Zeiss m-mount lenses. I am pretty sure that Cosina also made the barrels for these Rollei lenses.

The Pentax 43 is indeed rare.

Most of my "good" lenses are in like-new condition, including the Rollei Sonnar 35/2.8 and the Pentax LE 43mm 1.9 ltm.

Very late to this but still feel compelled to say thanks for the review. Every time I mention this lens I always get pointed to the Voigtlander version, but I'd prefer this Sonnar design lens instead.

I had one of the Voigtländer Nokton 40/1.4 MC lenses. It was good, but not great (particularly wide open). I later purchased a Pentax-L 43/1.9 Special and that one is great everywhere, one of my favorite lenses from my Pentax days and now on my Leicas.

Raid it's the 40mm. I love this lens and briefly had one, but the focus was grinding and my expert repairer could not fix that. I sent it back. Probably should have kept it. It is perfect on the digital Ms with the 50 frame lines. Lovely for black and white too. They don't come up often for sale and are ridiculously expensive.
