Rollei Pan 25 RIP

I've enjoyed shooting Rollie Pan 25 and have only a couple of rolls left. I typically develop in Rollie RLS with great success. Given that Pan 25 is no longer available what would be the closest substitute? Thanks.

If you're shooting 120 I don't know, but otherwise you might try Adox Pan 25

According to this it's the same emulsion as Rollei Pan 25.

I have 7 rolls of Rollei Pan 25 left. The best film in the world as far as I'm concerned. Freestyle still has it in 120 format.

Dude, Pan F+ is totally awesome, but.... Rollei Pan 25...

Pan 25 is very much a portrait film. I've found it best develops in Rollei Low Contrast developer or Rollei Low Speed developer.

Do you develop it for the time given for box speed, or a shorter time for 40/32? I'm interested in giving the film another try (last time was two years ago on a Mamiya 645 at box speed). Also, how would you rate it against Efke 25?

Looks similar to Adox CHS 25, which is available in both 35mm and 120 rolls.

Adox CHS 25 Art is Fotokemika Efke KB25. It's listed in the first thread in this forum, Mapping the Freestyle films.

Rollei PAN 25 was made in cooperation with Filmotec (OrWo). In fact an improved NP15 OrWo film. Because Filmotec can not coat themselves, Efke or Foma had to do this.

More a less a same project like Rollei R3 where the TSF of Filmotec (3-layer) was used on a clear Polyester layer and Forte has done this coating for Filmotec.

Here a 35mm example of PAN 25 (Rollei) with the Pyrocatechine developer of Amaloco Photochemicals, AM50 1+29 5:00 minutes.

Closest substitute? It depends whether you have used the first production runs made by Filmotec, or the last ones made by Fotokemika.
There was an official statement from the CEO of Maco Photo Products, Mr Schroeder, that during the last two years the Rollei Pan 25 was indeed Efke 25!

I have compared the latest Pan 25 to Efke 25 and yes, I've got identical results.
Therefore, if you have used the latest Rollei stuff you can directly replace it with Efke 25 or Adox 25 and get the same quality.

If you want to improve quality I recommend Agfa Copex Rapid in Spur Modular UR New developer:
- better tonality
- higher speed of ISO 40
- finer grain
- much better sharpness
- much higher resolution.

Yes for some reasons Maco terminated the cooperation with Filmotec. Like in the past their Ortho 25 film is also coming from Efke now.

On the other hand: PAN 25 is not so interesting anymore because ATP1.1 (Copex, Agfa Gevaert) and the Retro 80S (also from Agfa Gevaert) have better specs on iso 32-40 then this PAN 25 film.

And Efke 25 (or Adox CHS 25) is still available too. (Apart from Pan F+ from Ilford). The market is too small for too many iso 25-50 B&W products.

I was just looking at the 1.1 yesterday. It looks like a good film to play with.

Yes, it is a very good film, especially in the ATP-DC/AB develoiper made by SPUR for this Agfa Gevaert high resolution film.

ATP1.1 in ATP-DC. 35mm M7 + Summarit 2,5/75mm example.

It will stay in the Rollei program. But the film is made by Efke now (not Filmotec). So : R3, PAN 25 has been discontinued. Ortho 25 is available in 35mm, 120 roll film and different sheet film sizes.

Here an example in RLC which is a low contrast document developer. It's an Udo Raffay type developer, made by CG in Hamburg for Rollei Maco.

the 25 Ortho is pretty good, I've used it a lot also. And I love the RLC developer.
So as long as Efke will still be making the Pan 25, it does not look so bad. But they say it is the same as the "Efke Pan 25", not the KB or PL or R series. I have not seen the Efke Pan 25 anywhere but Macodirect.

Good news. I've settled on the Ortho 25 for my very slow film. Love the tonality of this stuff!
