Rollei Retro 100 - Some images from my 1st roll

I thought that Retro 100 used to be re-badged APX film, but that it isn't anymore. Can anyone set me straight on this matter?

In German Forums, S.Junghans from MACO (The Distributor of Rollei branded film) explained some time ago in detail what Agfa films were and what they did to them.

Agfa some time before they went south, changed the emulsion of the APX to make them better. Therefore you see sometimes different times for Agfa APX in devcharts.

MACO was able to get some bigger amount of material from Agfa (the big rolls, which had yet to be cut and packaged) and put them in deep-freeze, which is normal in that business. So those rolls had normal quality control from Agfa. Other distributors which bought the leftover stocks got what they could get, buy quality is reported to have been not consistent there.

Rollei Retro 100/400 is genuine Agfa Germany Stuff. There are some efforts to create a successor for those film, Adox ist doing some test coatings of a new "like APX 400" by now, and MACO announced a few days ago that they will reveal before Photokina (mess in Koeln in Autumn) their own successor to Rollei Retro 100.

BTW: Rollei Retro 80S and 400S are also genuine Agfa (Belgium)- this film is/was primarily intended for Aerial Photography and traffic surveillance (like Kodak Hawkeye), hat extended IR Range (but no true IR film) to cope with fog etc.
I like the clear base, and very flat material, wonderful to scan.

I shot a roll of 100 apx from the last production cycle (expiration date dec 2010) but am confused about dev times rodinal 1:50. At some places i read 13 min other places 17 minutes. Who knows the dev time Rodinal from own experience?

When its the last cycle, then its the stuff the Rollei Retro 100 is identical with- you can use times for it, so 13 Mins. Worked fine for me, got good results.

Maco itself says: 30 sec. presoak, inverting cycles every 30s, 10 Min. I used 3 agitations on the beginning of every Minute and was happy with about 13 Min.

Nice tone... For 35mm I use APX100 with Rodinal 1+50 too, and now I am thinking of deciding which ISO 100 film (for availability) to choose for 120 in Rodinal... I'm looking for comments on Acros and TMX, and I would prefer the one that's going to be available for longer...

Cheers,

Juan
You should also look at Adox CHS 100/Efke 100, older emulsion with rich silver and a look like in the 50s, also clear base, wonderful to scan. Works very good in Rodinal.

13 Minutes turned out perfect. Thanks!

I went through my original box of 10 Rollei Retro 100 rolls and am just about to order some more.

I'm down to my last 20 box of RR100. This photo is shot at 50ASA and souped in Rodinal 1:50, *16C*, for 13min 30sec.

I often wonder why so many insist on shooting ISO 400 film with their Leicas even in daylight

Rollei Retro 100 TONAL film (Orthopan) E.I. 50 in CG512 for 14:00 minutes (24C). Leica M7 + Summicron 2,0/50mm.

A new Rollei film emulsion, Orthopan like Acros 100 and Efke 25. Clear Polyester base, 610-625nm, E.I. 100 on daylight, E.I. 50 on tungsten light.
