I've read arround using the usual resources on the net but I value the advice and experience of the forum members here. My question is sinply this, is the bad reputation of the Rollei XF 35 justified, is it really that bad.

I have one and am putting my first roll of film through it. Initial impressions:

- Viewfinder better than expected.
- Overall build quality, not really good. Very light, feels fragile, wind-on has a weird notched feel at the end of the motion.

If the pics turn out nicely, what the heck :)

Mine works fine with the small exception of the silly designer-shaped release button sometimes getting stuck...

The front-focusing Sonnar may not have been the smartest idea in the world - they supposedly had many issues with that. But in typical family shoot outdoor settings it works well enough. But it is no Olympus 35RC or Revue 400SE, neither in reliability nor in image quality - and as such it doubtlessly was one more dark spot on the Rollei reputation, which was losing its glamour on all sides at that time...

thanks chaps, if I can pick one up cheaply I will probaby get one, but it will have to be cheap, I don't want to waste too much money

Good design -- poor execution. I haven't delved deeply enough into the camera, but with my camera, the rangefinder won't stay in calibration.

The Sonnar lens is a plus, and it's small and there are no foam seals to replace. After that, things get a bit dodgy.

There is a sister Voigtlander model, the VF 135. Same platform with a Skoparex (presumably the same lens with a different badge) and a slightly different top deck. Plus, the Voigtlander offering is a chrome camera.

I bought mine for $7.95 at a thrift shop. I'm glad that I didn't pay more than that.

are you sure it is a front cell focusing Sonnar? to me looks like a group focusing
