That's a strange thing. Any of you long time Rollei users come across this device before?
How does one advance film and re-charge the shutter ?
The two functions must occur separately film advance on magazine and shutter charge on camera ?
Does anyone know anything about this?

The only blurb I found online.

I saw one listed through a dealer. It has to be a special double capacity 70mm cassette in it. Standard 70mm cassettes hold 74 shots of normal thickness film.

I'd guess there's a special geared spool that fits in the takeup spool position. Again guessing, it would engage with the transport and film transport sprocket in the back. Cranking would transport the film and cock the shutter like with 120/220.

This was probably the medium format answer to the 250 shot GG and FF Leica and Nikon 250 motor drive / backs.

Journalists and event photographers might have used these. Even school photographers. The lens would be a touch short for portraits per the trends of that time so most likely it wasn't for portraits.

Yeah that all sounds about right.
I'll see Karl Ehlers tomorrow. Will ask him about it.

There was one for sale in Bangkok a few months ago, not sure if it could still be viable, no idea how you would feed the thing film wise or how it works but it is definitely interesting isn't it?

Here's an image of the Mecila Mag 150 detached from the camera (quite a beast!):

It uses 70mm film. Now this is just too Kewl! 150 shots from a Rolleiflex. See my 70mm thread for info on how to feed this beast. The cassettes look to be special and totally custom. 🙂

Wonder what this would weigh on a 2.8 loaded with film. If it holds 150 shots what would translate to just over 30 ft. I'm going to bet loaded with film and installed on camer it would be 7-8 pounds.

Here is some of my 70mm stuff I am using right now. I'm processing fifteen foot lengths of 70mm film film without issues right now.

I couldn't imagine processing thirty feet of 70mm film, I do have three Nikor 100 foot 70mm SS reels and tanks, but they are HUMUNGEOUS. I think they take 5 gallons of chemistry each. 😱

If you only loaded 70 exposures then you could develop the partial roll in the Kindermann, Nikor, or JOBO 70mm tanks.
Which require only 2000ml of chemistry.
