Rolleiflex 3.5F flaring horribly

I was shooting some portraits with my Rolleiflex and it looks like the lens is flaring pretty wildly. I was shooting with a hood, and no filter / close up lens.

Anybody know what Focal Point charges for a cleaning or recoating? Or have any suggesstions to keep the flare down?

I'm not sure how much of a repair my Rollei needs, but I'm pretty sure I was able to shoot into the sun and not have my lens flare so wildly.

It doesn't look like there's haze, but tons of little scratch marks on the inner elements.

On closer inspection, there may be a very very slight haze.

I'd have it looked at asap. There must be some members here that can direct you to Harry Fleenor and the likes to have it back to pristine soon.

I'm well aware of Fleenor and Krikor. I've had my 3.5F serviced in the past. I'll call some people on Monday to evaluate my options.

Exactly what I'm thinking. There shouldn't be any cleaning marks inside the lens, but the lacework pattern of a fungus might look a lot like that. I'd act quickly.

If you wait too long to remove the fungus it will etch your glass. That can not be cured.
Get it cleaned fast and pray it is not too late.

There is also an internal light shield, that is fabric, inside the chamber of the taking lens. Make sure that the hood is on the lens. This hood deals with shielding the film chamber, for the movement of the focusing stage.

You may be able to see it from the inside of the camera.

Earlier this year, I had Harry overhaul my 3.5F and upgrade the screen to a Maxwell. At that time it was only 10 weeks wait, but Harry was right on schedule with no extended delays.

mine Planar on 3.5E is very weak on flare too:

This is against very hard sun (without hood or filters). Direct scan. There should be water from the lake, but it is all blown out by the flare.

Several days ago I received a plastic lens hood from Amazon, so I expect to make improvement.

Looks like dirt/haze/oil on the lens. I bought a Yashica a few years ago and the first pictures were terrible (looked like the above). I had the lens cleaned and voila! Perfect.

Update:

John has the camera and has confirmed fungus between the first and second elements. The front lens element has scratching and needs to be re-polished & coated.

Total damange is going to come to $350 or more. But for a working camera, I'll pay it.
