I want to ask/share one small but important issue about film rolling out of the bulk.

Sometimes, while rewinding, I end with the film on the right side of the camera (empty canister) (Bessa R and Maxxum 7 cameras) and need my sleeve to roll the film into the plastic box. Bad situation, because I need fast access to next roll... Sure, I used masking tape to hold the film strong tied, but....
Today I opened one of my old HP5+ canister and that's what I discovered :bang: .
From now on, I am going to use my office punch device to imitate the Ilford production line. Not only the eliptical hole, but the oval cuts arround it.
How do you do that? May be I am overreacting? I want to be sure I have my film back as expected and ready for moving it to the rail for developing

I've personally never had any problems with using masking tape - I make sure that there is a lot of tape in contact with plastic and rub it with a fingernail to get it really stuck.

If I did have a problem, I think I'd start by finding better tape (like the stuff Kodak uses on Tri-x) rather than cutting the film end. That looks like a lot of hassle to go through for each roll unless you have a single action punch which would do the whole job in one go - also, wouldn't you have to pull more film out of the loader to acheive this? That would waste frames.

Maxxum 7 is very delicate machine and it knows how to rewind, but the result is sometimes bad - the film is not rolling back into the canister. I am not over pulling the film in my Besa R too. My fault, I know, but how you secure your roll?
Sticky tape?

ITD, I opened TRI-X also, but was in doubt, that Kodak does it not pro? Interesting, if you look close, you will find simpler plastic production in the TRI-X canster. I mean, the part that you connect the film tip to.
They use very nice sticky tape

Yes, it looks as if you are trying to imitate the commercial roll type of attachment. As others have stated, tape around the spool to both sides of the film and don't force the film advance and you should be fine. I use masking tape as it is thin and it works well.

I use masking tape or scotch tape. I roll film for a photo club so I've done hundreds, just make sure the tape goes around the reel and sticks to both sides of the film.

I think I would get into the habit of spooling off the same amount of frames per roll. I know how finiky the Bessa R is. I try and be extra careful and I am always on top of the frame counter on mine. Every time I get to that last frame I am very easy on the shutter lever because I know how it likes to hang mid stroke on that last frame. Haven't had a problem yet, and I expect my Bessa to out last me. May you be blessed lZr to many happy and prosperous winds of the shutter lever in 2008.🙂
