Rolling your own with an automatically winding camera

Last year I got a roll of Retro80s when the individuals dried up. It was easy enough, but there was one caveat. One of my auto-winding cameras (Fujifilm TX-1) Didn't really like it. This guy will totally unroll a roll of film all the way and start shooting from the back. It looks like the film is coming out of the cannister and it can't go back in, resulting in an error. Would this be a bad job of taping it to the spool? The cannister? Just not a good camera for self-rolled film?

Likely not taped on tight or close enough to the spool. I imagine the end of the film is now outside the canister and only the tape is inside.
I once used a Canon that did the same thing, except I had not taped it well enough, the camera just ripped it off the spool!
My advice is to make sure it's secured nice and tight, tape on both sides and see how it goes.

That sounds about right...
So help me with a visual, b/c I tried to tape adequately. I'm also using postal tape which is pretty durable. When pulled taut, should the film still overlap the spool? Never seen regular film ever do that. Also worth noting it didn't do it for all rolls. Was wondering if it was the canister and not the tape.

No.

The tape should be attached to the back of the film, wrap around the spool and then stick to the emulsion side of the film. The film end should just touch the spool with no real gap.

This is how I do it as well, and my Contax T2 & 3 like it that way. No Canon anything here...
