Hey,

As part of a job lot of cameras today, I picked up a canon AT-1 that has rolls royce decals on it. They seem to have been put on professionally, its not just a normal sticker put on by an end user.

One of the logos has been partly scratched off, and the other is pretty much mint. Ive tried googling to find any information on the camera, as it seems it could be pretty unique!

Any ideas of why it might have had the logos on it, or some possible history etc?

I doubt anything is going on. Maybe owned by a RR fan. I think I would have put decal on other way round, and this may also suggest not an official item. Sorry to say.

If the thing were engraved and gold plated, or if it were a Yugo logo, an official item would be more plausible. But any amount of RR decals won't make a AT-1 a suitable trade show present/bribe for a potential buyer of either luxury cars or jet engines.

Similar decals were part of RC model car kits, and the AT-1 is quite a teenagers first camera - probably the first owner was a boy with a crush on Rolls Royce.

Looking through my Canon bodies last week I did come up on one. Rereading the writeup in the Canon Museum, there was a note that the AT1 was only a later model (less expensive) of the AE-1. My example is a fun camera to use, and seems well built .

Looks as if some kid got a set of decals somewhere and needed a place to put them and had chosen its favourite toy. We put Porsche and Mercedes decals everywhere in my teenage days.
