Going to Rome in a couple days

The kit - fuji x100s and in honor of nikon rf month - likely the nikon SP w 50/1.4 and 85/2.0

Anyone have suggestions at to what to see and where to take photos?
Lately been playing with HDR shots and tripod

We've seen the major tourist sites - any secret photo friendly neighborhoods /markets etc?

Is it time for an RFF Rome meeting?

My Favorite Church in Rome

Besides the usual sites, I recommend the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels (Santa Maria degli Angeli). The architecture and grandeur of the place is marvelous. The art work in that church is a mixture of classic, old art and modern art. I also like the fountain in front of it. It's located by Piazza della Repubblica.

Well, Rome is photogenic all round. As long as you don't waste too much time in churches and the Vatican, you will see photo opportunities everywhere. Start with the Old Rome and Trastevere:

Just there in October. I second the Trastevere mention whether you are photographing or not.



Do some research on the churches if that's your sort of thing. Not just big ones I mean. There is an amazing number of fascinating churches to visit.



The Protestant Cemetery is worth a visit IMO. Graves of many famous people and it must be the most beautiful cemetery I've been to.



So much to see just walking the streets.

I adore that city. You're going to love it. It's impossible--or at least pretty darn difficult--to entirely avoid the so-called iconic images of Rome if it's your first time there, but take in the everyday life scenes around you and get lost in the endless alleys and narrow side streets and you'll see photo opportunities virtually everywhere you turn.

I suggest an unusual visit, quite new, where you would experience "an unforgettable journey through time". It's Palazzo Valentini, close to Piazza Venezia and the Traianean Markets, I couldn't not take pictures when I visited it but maybe because it was at the very beginning of its opening. The church of San Clemente in via S.giovanni in Laterano (not far from the Colosseo) is well worth a visit!!!enjoy your special journey. Mauro

the X100S is a marvelous camera - I''m getting reacquainted after some time away

It can leterally see in the dark - this photo - you could not see anything in the nave - all dark - it's like having night vision - and I was practicing shooting, handheld, between heartbeats to steady the camera - I think I did well:

This is the ancient church of St Vitale - we stumbled into a Super-Bowl of religious events, the Roman version of Stations of Lent - I thnk . I was told they do this every year, in a Roman specifc ceremony, and it has been happening since 400 A.D., was impressive to watch even if we didn't understand exactly what was transpiring
