I know a lot of folks have asked about a full frame sensor but this is the first time I'm hearing someone I respect say it "out loud".
I'll state what has been said and then you guys can go crazy with speculation or tar and feather me for spreading unsubstantiated gossip (because right now, that's all I've got to go on here..
) Due to where I heard this, I am, unfortunately not at liberty to say who said this. I can tell you this much though, the person in question (and myself) do not work for Leica
(so get ready your grains of salt that are boulder sized
)
<RUMOUR ALERT>Leica is looking at a full frame sensor to be installed into the existing M8 bodies</RUMOUR ALERT>
I can't state how true that would be or when that would occur but if it does come to be true then the M8 would definitely be even more unique in this world where the big players seem to say "upgrade your entire body every 6-8 months" - with their short life cycles.

If unsubstantiated rumors are all you've got, you are at least good as the New York Times.
So, is the 1/4000 shutter a pre-req? Hmm.

just curious
How weird.
Rumors also indicate that there wont be a DSLR but another back. I hear a lot of moaning and groaning about that but I think its a great idea actually. I just wonder if Leica will be the first to overtake avery one again like thy did before, and come out with 16bit imaging. Now THAT would be something to get me back into digital.

The Panacea
I was talking to a homeless guy at the halfway house the other day who claimed that he knew a guy who knew a guy that worked for a company who's name starts with an "L." Although he couldn't come out and tell me the name of the company, to protect his friend who was working as a janitor there, he says that his friend found an inner office memo in the trash that discussed a new camera the company was producing. The camera is a product of two companies, one a German company and the other a Japanese electronics conglomerate. The camera is being produced for those who think Canon Rebels have the best image quality, those who want full frame sensors and those who constantly run down certain cameras even though they either don't own or use them. Obviously I must protect my sources here because who knows what valuable information I might glean from them in the future but I can disclose the name of the camera it will be called the Panacea. Watch this forum for future posts by me that will be based on unsubstantiated rumor, inuendo and just plain gossip.

Hmmm, I hope it wasn't allowing that to leak out on his watch that got Mr. Lee sacked

This is NOT unsubstantiated.
Leica IS working on a full-frame sensor with a GOAL of offering it as an M8 upgrade.

Digital Zeiss Ikon?
NIKON KIU
Did you say Nippon Kogaku
This is a BAD marketing move. Why not do it the Nikon way?
slap the new sensor in the camera and call it M8x...
Some companies NEVER learn.

I heard that a well known car manifacturer is planning on retrofitting old charriots with a catalitic engine, disc brakes, air-bags, safety belts and tires. I can't wait to buy one of these wonders 'cause I feel so bad in modern cars... Rumors say they will cost no more than 150,000$ and travel up to 45Ml/h !!!

You said in a previous thread (only yesterday) that you have no intention of hiring an M8 or buying one as it is unsuitable for your wedding work and that you could not justify it financially on any other grounds yet here you are a day later refering to the potential unique properties of this machine which you have never even seen. I know we are all entitled to our views but yours are confusing me.

The assumptions are that many of the current problems and concerns with the M8 are with the sensor itself.
It's craptacular - or "unique" amongst the other sensors in other digicams out there
Granted, perhaps, the problems can be fixed by software - but if they could, you'd think that Leica would have done something by now.
"unique" is not necessarily synonymous with "leading edge"/"great" or any other positive terminology
"unique" can merely mean "not typical, unusual" - and we all know that the Leica M8 is definitely "not typical, unusual"...

You continue to go on about the M8 and its "probelms" as you perceive them. You have no prospect of trying one and no interest in buying one. Any problems that you raise with this camera can only be what you have either read or heard. It is a pitty that you have not the opportunity to get your hands one one. Im betting that you might post rather differently afterwards.
Richard
