Russia Launches Final Film Based Spy Satellite

Hi,

It's difficult to believe it's a spy satellite, given the time lag. Mapping or surveying perhaps but spying means faster than real time to be any use...

I say it is not for satellite use but for use by high altitude reconnaissance jet air-plane .

quick on-line google reveals that the missions typically last for about a 100 days, and there are 2 sets of film returned via capsules; and the third returns with the satellite. So, there's significant limitations.

Kind of like shooting film?
I wonder if it makes the spy images more artistic. Or if it makes the satellite feel better?

Hi,

Well, um, if it was on Google's search then it must be true. Like everything else you find in searches...

It's certainly interesting... I'd imagine the resolution must be extraordinary.

Like in the Movie The Peacemaker. Supposedly the Russians still use steam engines to transport nuclear weapons.
That actually makes sense. Because there are no electronics required to run a steam engine so it won't be stopped by a nearby nuclear detonation unlike a diesel electric.
