Russian lenses : building a database - need your help!

what else will u include on ur site? will there be some sample photos for every camera. it would be fun to make tests and show them on site. when we will see first version of page? i cant wait that. 😀

The possibilities are infinite, however up to now it would be about building a database, being able to filter data in the way you want, also including browsing by production site logo, and also possibility to add a generic photo for a lens (ex. if the lens is a Jupiter-12 produced by Zavod Arsenal in kiev mount, we put one photo of this specific model, if it is a J-12 produced at KMZ in kiev mount, one photo, if it's a J-12 produced at KMZ in LTM, one photo .. and so on). also the possibility for each registered user to add a comment specific to one lens model.

The idea is not to make an exhaustive database with a photo of each unique lens (though we could) but we could select for example all Jupiter-8 produced in LTM mount from 1962 to 1966 and see what results we get : production sites, coating, etc.. 🙂

Only have one FSU lens, but it is a great one.

Rff username: dexdog
- lens model: Jupiter 9
- focal length: 85mm
- f/ stop values: f 2 to f 22
- lens mount: Contax/Kiev
- serial number: 5102222
- symbol on the lens: KMZ
- coating color: purple
- lens color: chrome
- number of blades: 16
- useful comment: includes bakelite rear cap, chrome front cap, bakelite lens case, bakelite 85mm finder with bakelite case. Excellent lens performance, good build quality.

Hello!

Following to this thread : http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=233654#post233654 I had the idea of creating a database that would help us in gathering our knowledge of russian lenses and assist in crossing data from production time, places, and such.

Like stated in the aforementioned thread, it would be great if we can make an accurate database by crossing all the informations with the various soviet lenses in kiev and ltm mount. I'm open into working on this project. Feel free to "feed" me with such informations. I can be contacted at "max" "@" "kamshin" "." "com"

I suggest the following info to be sent :

- rff username
- lens model
- focal length
- f/ stop value
- lens mount
- serial number (you can hide the last 2 numbers if you want)
- symbol on the lens
- coating color
- lens color (chrome or black)

additionally, this data could be also sent:

- number of blades
- any comment you find useful to add

regards and thank you for the cooperation 😀

@ Max, next step I'll grid out what I have in FSU glass based on your original info request and send it in an XL SS... which brings the question... do you have a blank SS that you could send that has all the categories you state and which we could fill and return to make your job and formatting easier?

Definitely Jan, and thank you for the files you sent me, I'll try to use them at their best 🙂

I joined to this post the excel spreadsheet I'm using, it's so far filled with all the info I've gathered, except the data of rbiemer (i've it at work and it's weekend now). Since I cannot join an excel file to a post (file type restriction) I have zipped it and it is attached to this post.

If you have already filed me some data lens, feel free to check and correct... else, just clear the spreadsheet and fill it with your data. Please follow the format, this will avoid me doing tedious clean-up work 🙂

Cheers,
max

darkavenger, it is a domestic lens, marked in cyrillic letters. Sorry that I forgot to mention that.

- focal length: 50mm
- f/ stop values: f 2 to f 22
- lens mount: Contax/Kiev

- symbol on the lens: П
- coating color: ?
- lens color: chrome
- number of blades: 9

Hello Michel, and thank you 🙂 Is the lens marked with a sort of triangle shaped symbol with round corners? (like an A letter) ? when you move the lens on the light, does it reflect purple or yellow (or both) ?

max

You are rigth about the symbol. It looks like a disformed mercedes-benz symbol. Having no daylight at this moment, I am not sure about the coating. It seems yellowish but it gives also some purple reflexions.

Interesting thread- I'll need to spend a little time latertodaytocompile my list of russian lenses. It's a short list for sure. But, Idon't know the specs of each without looking first.

Besides, I hear it's all the rage with us dilletantes to use FSU cameras and lenses. 😉

I sent my list in. What does the red "П" stand for? I know it's a cyrillic "P," but what does it mean?

Cheers,

pnewport : Thanks, did you sent it to : m a x @ k a m s h i n . c o m ?

The red "P" stands for coated. krasnaia_zvezda once told me about the russian meaning, but I forgot. It's here however, lost on the million threads and posts! 🙂

Fedzilla_Bob : We're crazy people! I've spent about 5 minutes playing with my Fed-5 lightmeter. seems like it works! 😉

Do you want to limit your data to LTM and Kiev mounts? Even if that's the case, I'll need some time to write it all down as I have more than a few FSU lenses.
