Russian Voskhod (âîñõîä)

Anyone handled this cam before? A friend of mine is coming back to N.O. after visiting her parents in Russia, and she's bringing this "âîñõîä" for me.....I don't know what to expect - she said it was in a pretty bad condition. My hands a re itching to try to restore it.....

It looks much like a Kodak Instamatic 500, which was almost the "half-Frame Retina". Good thing your camera uses 35mm film! The Kodak 500 had a good 4-element F2.8 Xenar and Gossen light meter.

With a three-element lens, it is on the low-end of the scale. Kodak "Retinettes" had the 3-element Roemar lens, they were not bad but will not deliver pictures as sharp as the 5-element lens used by Olympus for the RC, and other 4-element lenses of the Budget cameras.

But restored, these type of cameras are fun to use and you do not worry about where they go. I use a $10 Kodak Retina Auto 3 as my "Pool Cam".
 
I've seen it on Alfred´s Klomp page also, and It make me want one, the only thing I don't like it's lower speed.
It has an elegant look modern and old at the same time, It's very original between Zorki's and Kievs.

Pablo, I'll surely post some pix of it (and maybe taken with it, if it works).....Just called my friend - her suitcase were lost in transit!!! My Voskhod!!!!!!!!!! We are hoping for the best though....
 
I hope she recovers her suit and your Treasure.
Maybe someone at Transit is still trying to find if it's a gun or camera.
 
Well, got my Voskhod today. Bottom plate is missing. I cleanned it up a bit. The viewfinder looks very good...big and clear. I uploaded some pics of it to my pbase site. Please, select LARGE for viewing - ORIGINAL size is pretty big.

I am going to go back to the site that describes this cam and read about repairing:

Good to hear it arrived to you Lil ! Keep us posted with the restoration and results. Btw it was the first FSU camera to have a selenium meter with the needle visible inside the finder.
 
taffer, I just found out it's a simple viewcamera - no focus indication:( and the lens is far from being decent. I might just take it apart for learning purposes......
 
Oops, sorry. Anyway keep up posted as how the learning process goes, you'll sure have fun while tampering a bit with it :)
 
now I know what Voskhod looks like disassembled:))) Will be using it to teach my daughters about view camera construction.
 
It's great you have recieved your camera. Teaching your daughters is a very nice way of sharing with them this passion yours for photografy.
