using the rear lcd is not so bad...i use it on the rx100 and no problems so far...in fact i think it's better for street shooting.
+1
It is, even better with a Touch/AF/Trigger arrangement!
I use my OMD like that as a Street Camera in many occasions... very fast, and guarantied where you touch is in focus.

Honestly I never understood people's need for complaining about cameras they don't have and never plan to purchase anyway. I'm happy with my RX1, and I don't spend my time thinking about what problems cameras from Fuji, Nikon and Canon might have.

Perhaps it's because we are dreamers. Sony got so much right, but so much wrong (in some of our eyes)... we were heartbroken.

In what way is control cumbersome? It has direct control, dedicated dials for all major parameters, five buttons customizable to 27 functions. It has manual mode in combination with auto-iso.Not strange at all. No finder (except for a $500 external clip on) and an inflexible user interface. The reviews indicate manual control is cumbersome.
The camera's user interface has to be well suited for many photographers. I am not one of them. So even though the sensor and lens are excellent, I would never buy a camera I won't enjoy using.
The only thing cumbersome about these controls is the that camera itself is very compact, and it doesn't incorporate a grip.

I tried to look at one in one of the few camera stores in VT today. Was told it wasn't coming out until tomorrow, and no they didn't have any. I did hold an RX100, and was surprised at the build. It felt quite solid, if a bit slippery for my taste. The RX1 has a lot of appeal for me, but is apparently bigger than the 100, so maybe not compact enough for what I wanted...
Still mulling this one over vs an X2, and then I got my X2 Paul Smith edition email this evening, so it's time to put up or shut up on that and I'm nowhere near flush enough.
