I'm still getting into my comfort zone with expressing myself with compact cameras. Anders Petersen shoots a Contax T3, and my own sits on a shelf as I look at hanging rolls of film to cut, sleeve, contact, and edit. So the Sony RX100 is taking up the slack. I think it's working out.

You can say that again!
The RX100 is really something. I got mine a while ago, but have only recently started using it in earnest.
At first, I found the user-experience a little "cold", but I've suddenly become very keen on it. I now use it almost every day.

I've enjoyed my second RX-100 greatly, taken it to recent trips and yes, it does exactly what it advertises. A fantastic digital (only digital I own currently) camera. Your shots are great, and enjoy the look greatly!

Nice, David. Loving the Rx100 as well... now just waiting for a fixed 35/40 from any camera company

The top two portraits were shot at 35mm equivalent on the RX100, about the same focal length as the T3. The user-defined memory is great for pre-setting the camera, but unfortunately lens zoom isn't one of them.

This is the only thing I feel the Rx100 is missing for my particular needs - I didn't realize how much I used this feature (focal length memory) on my Lumix.
Looking forward to more images.

I reckon that you should both check this out again - you might be in a for a nice surprise...!

David, I just had a look at your Tumblr site. Great images! Thanks for this post and for the link. Are the color images made in Rio all made with the RX100?

Thanks Jamie. No, those color Rio shots on my Tumblr were made with a Fuji X100

David,
I was just wondering whether you'd seen my earlier post (#8), and if so, whether you'd had a chance to check out the user-defined memory recall of zoom settings?
Tim.

Tim, bravo!
Ensuring the camera learns the way you want to store the settings was the unclear portion of the user manual. Now that it learned, voilà! I've got a digital T3
35mm lens equivalent, 400iso, f8.0, b&w high-contrast setting (for the EVF...save in RAW), strobe activated...all at a twist of the mode dial.
Hot damn.

I'm confused... when I read your posts, I thought that this wasn't right, so I've just checked it, to be certain of my facts. My RX100 definitely recalls the zoom settings through the user-defined memory.

Great! I'm glad that you've both got your 'wishes', as it were...
Hopefully, other RX100 owners might be helped by this thread too...

I've had my RX100 twelve months and I didn't know it retained the zoom settings. Never crossed my mind to try it out. Too late now as I'm putting it up for sale to help fund the new GR.

That's a pity, but I can certainly see the strong attraction of the GR - it looks very nice indeed!
I'm studiously avoiding getting interested in it...
