RX100 Dead - Repair places?

This morning while trying to take a photo, I powered on my Rx100 and got greeted with a multi-colored static screen, and powering off didn't retract the lens. No error message.

Does anyone have a preferred repair center for RX100's and the like?

Also, if I can't get it fixed, rather than buying the exact same thing, I'm likely to go for the Mark III. What other pocketable premium digitals are out there, that you have experience with?

Full charge on the battery?

Did you take the battery out and let her sit for a minute and put the battery back in?

My GRD III died with her lens out too, very frustrating as they are both such wonderful little cameras.

No idea on a good repair group. Might check ifixit.com as they have expanded into some camera stuff.

Shorter, but wider at the wide end. 24-70 equiv. rather than 28-100. And the lens is brighter at the long end. 2.8 instead of 4.9.

I have used the service center in Laredo 3 times in the past, around 6 years ago, for repair of a year old, what was then one of Sony's better compact cameras, which I had given my wife. 3 times because every time they sent it back it only worked for a week or so before failing again with the same problem. I finally fixed it myself with information I gained from a youtube video, and it stayed fixed thereafter, though it now resides somewhere in my wife's closet because iPhone.
Sony camera service hasn't quite achieved 5 star status yet, if experiences of people posting on the web is to be believed. People getting realistic service results seem to be the exception. If you google "sony service centers", my experience will hardly seem to be an outlier.
I sincerely hope you have better luck. The Rx100 is a nice camera.

The battery is not fully charged, but it's adequate and it's certainly had less in it. I did try the battery out for a couple hours, but the situation hadn't changed when I tried her again.

I did manage to get her lens back in by restarting her, and pulling the battery when the lens is in.

I will try a full charge and perhaps new firmware tonight. Maybe the firmware's gone stupid. But I am still fearful she'll have to go to the repair center.

Good to hear some movement in the right direction....

That's a great idea to update the firmware. I will have to try that with mine and things settle down..

Precision Camera is the official service provider for Sony for out-of-warranty repairs. They fixed my Mk III earlier this year (lens cover wasn't opening or closing). Not cheap, but fast and efficient.
