No, it doesn't. The 50/1.5 has 40mm filter thread, the S-50 is made for the 50/1.4 with 48mm filter thread. I use a modified Leitz hood on mine, but I think most people use a Series VI hood with adapter (like 130091971704). You can also use a 40-40.5mm step-up adapter and a generic 40.5mm hood.

The rectangular Canon 50/1.8 hood works fine for me on the 50/1.8, and it's a far more usable hood than the genuine 50/1.5 hood, which is round and isn't vented.

I have not tried the more common rectangular 50/1.9 hood. It's smaller, so it might vignette with the large front element.

I presume that there may be some very slight loss in lens speed wide open with any Series VI hood on the 50/1.5, which would be why Canon made it a Series VII hood. But I've seen no affects of consequence with the 50/1.8 rectangular hood.

The rectangular 50/1.8 hood is what I use with the 50/1.5, my 50/1.5 hoods are just there out of G.A.S.

Hey Rover, can you help me figure this out? I took your advice above and bought the adaptor ring from ebay you linked to. Only problem is it doesn't fit any of my 39mm lenses (e.g., rigid cron and 50/2.8 M Elmar). Turns out the push on part isn't 39mm (which is the female threaded part on the above lenses) and is, instead, 42mm (which I thought was the outside diameter of these lenses). So, since the push on part is exactly the same size as the outside diameter of these lenses, all it does is line up perfectly with that outside diameter - it doesn't slip inside and it doesn't slip around/over. So, sounds like I should be looking for a 39mm adaptor instead, right? Any advice you can provide would be helpful.

No, my 42mm push on slips outside of my lenses, including my rigid and collapsible cron. The metal skirt should be slotted. It needs to be tight enough to hold the hood in place with friction, but has it been squeezed in making it too tight to go on your lenses? If you slightly bend the skirt out will it work?

Thanks, Rover. No, the slotted fingers haven't been squeezed in. And they are perfectly round. But they are exactly the same size as the outside diameter of my rigid cron and elmar. Guess I could bend them out but I fear that will be difficult to keep them in a uniform round arrangement. I'm still thinking that I need an adapter that is either slightly larger around to go around the outside of the lenses or slightly smaller to slip inside of the lenses. Are you sure yours is reallya 42mm adapter that slips outside of your lenses? Don't mean to doubt you it's just that mine clearly doesn't work.

Thanks for confirming that, Rover. That's very odd since mine clearly doesn't. Mine says on the outside edge of the ring "Kodak Series VI Adapter Ring 1 21/32" or something to that effect. Does that match what your Kodak brand adapter says?

The Kodak ring is actually the easiest fit of the 3 as it has the most slots on the skirt.

Wow, thanks Rover for the further information and pics. Yep, your Kodak adapter looks just like the one I got (no surprise, I guess, since you were the one who pointed it out to me/us on ebay in the first place). Guess I'll have to try and open those fingers up a bit and see if I can make it fit without causing it to be out of round or marking up my pretty lenses. Perhaps if I first slip it around a large dowel like a closet rod and then roll it around a bit while putting a little force on it... yeah, that's the ticket... Wish me luck!

I have the same Kodak ring which says "Kodak Series VI Adapter Ring 1 21/32" . It fits the 40mm lens I have had although a slightly tight fit. Did you get yours to work?

The slip-on Kodak rings are quite adjustable. But, they will mar the chrome over time. You need to make the shelf-queen/user decision if you go and use them regularly.

The 50/1.5 Series VII hood shows up very intermittently anywhere. The price is unpredictable, anywhere from $20 to $75. There's two versions, chrome with a screw-in 40mm adapter, and black with a screw-clamp 42mm adapter.

The rectangular 50/1.8 hood is easier to find than the 50/1.5 hood. It normally comes with a Canon 42mm slip-on Series VI adapter, which isn't too bad about scratching the chrome. I've replaced that adapter on mine with the later 42mm clamp-on Series VI adapter.
