This lens has been out for sometime now - coming up to two years now I think. The estimates for the number made in the original run was something in the region of 100 to 300 (at most). Is this lens from a new production run?

AFAIK there was just the one production run of 300. Several shops in Tokyo still have a few of these lenses (new) in stock. Here's some threads on this lens:
