The article doesn't go into much detail, though what it does say is:

* the optical formula is the same as the ZM Sonnar 50/1.5
* multicoating is the same as the ZM lenses
* the look and feel is (naturally) just like the ZM Sonnar 50/1.5
* a hood and rear lens cap are included

So, there are actually some of them 'in-flesh-and-blood' and not just marketing pictures in website. The rear lens cap is good news, too. I suppose those photos on that magazine page, were also shot with the lens? Well, maybe other magazines make a bit more in-depth review, for example NHS Journal... ;)

Edit: By the way, I found almost similar aluminum rear caps from eBay. They were new and made by a Japanese factory. Caps were engraved "for Contax". Price was US$9.00 for one cap + shipping, if I remember correctly.

With the Fujichrome Provia 100F...
Bizarre...i'm more and more interested by this brand new version of Sonnar...

Just got a phone call from the Zeiss distributor in Portugal (after questioning him about availability and price for Europe).
You have to ordered it until end of the year and they will delivered next spring 2008.
"Special Limited Limited Edition " on his own words!
They said it will have the same price as the Sonnar on Leica mount....

Price.. 1018€uro!!:eek::eek: :bang: (1,434.76 USD as today rate)
(FYI, 105 000 Yen = +-645 €uro! So, anyone in Japan can buy me one? :angel::rolleyes: :p)

That's the same information, I received from Zeiss Germany by e-mail yestarday. :)

You should maybe calculate customs duty fees, your local sales tax, Japanese 5% sales tax and shipping to that Japanese price - which sounds at first quite tempting.

I personally estimated that, if I order the lens from Japan - via one RFF-member - it would cost about 950 eur for me (including high 22% Finnish VAT, 7% customs duty fee, shipping etc.). And if I order it directly from Zeiss, it would cost about 999.00 eur + shipping, if the price is same as ZM version of the lens. Then it would also include 2 years EU warranty.

Jari,

Thanks for killing my GAS!:D
Really appreciated! ;)

Much easier to live that way now!

And yes, your figures are very correct. Thanks!
Still....

Maybe you could start a Scandinavian VAT racket by having a member in Cyprus do all the ordering at the Cypriot VAT rate of 15%, and then ship everything to the Nordic countries :)

hmmm or Luxembourg!
Anyone?

Better not... is on the rise again!!!
I must quit Drugs! GAS Drugs!:bang::bang:

Maybe this "Find Distributors" link will help:

You can try send e-mail to all of them and ask what their local price is going to be for the lens? :)

Then you can try to compare it with Japanese (non-tax?) price. Or which country in Europe has the lowest VAT (and the most careless customs officers), if the idea was, that someone from Japan sends the lens to that country and another RFF-member re-sends the lens to you... Sounds quite complicated! ;)

Jari, you could also just go to Åland and have the lens shipped there, that way you could at least work around the VAT ;)

Sshhh, don't tell that anyone... ;) But unfortunately in real world it's not that simple. :( I have a friend working in a local tax office and I can ask an unofficial comment from there.
