I was bidding on it but I lost since I put a well thought limit to it.

As has already been stated WD40 didn't do a thing to this camera. The finger pushing the button is the one doing the wrecking. It's too bad the brain behind that finger is lacking in knowledge.. 😱

I know that but if it was not for WD-40 being used where it is not intended to be used then these mishaps would not happen or be so frequent.. but then again these same people would probably run wild with crazy glue as a fix all.

Most people get the idea that WD- 40 can do everything with no consequences from watching years of TV ads about WD-40 and have the idea ingrained in the backs of their mind that this stuff can do miracles with just a little squirt no matter how complex a mechanical object is that needs mending.

Anything more complicated than the interns of a rust shut simple padlock should not be flooded with this stuff.

WD40 isn't really a lubricant in the same sense as white lithium grease is in the spray can. WD40 will disolve lubricants so don't use it unless you want to clean camera parts. But that being said, I don't think him spraying the WD into it wrecked it though. Apparently something on the inside was already binding or such.

Someone spraying WD40 into expensive equipment apparently has too much money and lacks a sense.

Though I agree that drop of WD40 almost definitely isn't reason of sale. It isn't advancing, RF patch isn't visible and body has heavy dents? I've described I've poured a drop of WD40 into it, that should be clear from it!

It of course wasn't. The seller dropped some WD40 behind the focusing wheel and some dirty fluid reached the rangefinder optics, blurring them enough so that they became opaque.
Nothing serious.

The ding on the bottom plate was more of a concern (if any).

Excellent deal for the buyer, yet nobody would buy a Nikkor-S-C 50/1.4 alone for €331, so the seller didn't give it away, neither.
