S2 back from Florida

I got my S2 back from Florida after a quick turn around on a CLA. The camera is now smoother in operation and the optics of the vf are clean and brighter than before. The other thing that impressed me was that USPS/Canada-Post/Canada Customs were able to get the package to my door in 6 days including a weekend. I was not so impressed with the fact that Canada Customs charged me PST/GST on a camera marked on the outside of the box on the US customs declaration form as repaired camera. I have had to fill out a the paper work to get an adjustment as they call it. Wish me luck on that one. The package was shipped via USPS Express Mail with a tracking number. The tracking number was accessible on both the USPS and Can Posts web sites so I could track it both sides of the border. The Post Offices on both sides of the border often take hits for poor service so I just thought I would praise them for a change for a job well done.

UPS across the border? I don't think so. . . they charged me a brokerage fee of $100 on a light meter repair!

Believe me Fred, if you lived in Canada, you would never want UPS to deliver a package from outside Canada with a declared value of 60 US dollars or more.
you do it once and you'd be super p***ed off.
Frank is right, it is highway robbery at what UPS charges and nothing more.

I have been taking pictures with a wide variety of RF gear but I do not bother displaying them here, I am afraid they don't meet the quality or type standards that seem to be preferred here. I just thought the POs should get praised when it was due.

It was sent to Pete Smith.

You are very correct about UPS delivering into Canada from outside the country. I was burned buy brokers fees they charged some 20 years ago and never used them again. They also lost a rifle for me one time but seemed to find it quickly after I reported it lost to police. Canada post charged $5.00 CAD for a handling fee/brokers fee so there are no complaints there, it is the PST&GST charged by I assume Canada Customs that bugs me.

>>That makes no sense, I assume you contacted them? For UPS to have charged a $100 broker's fee they would have had to value the item at over $25,000! Are you sure that was not the tax?

Even if it was tax, it seems out of line if you have the receipt showing that it was purchased in Canada!<<

This was easily ten years ago so all the details are a bit fuzzy. However, the one hundred bucks went to UPS and not government taxes, that I remember. I wrote them a scathing letter, just to vent, and will never use them again. How do businesses survive generating ill-will like that? Oh, yes, the meter repair was under warranty, so the only money went to UPS. Sounds like there could be a Murphy's Law variant in there somewhere!

>>And, your point?<<

My point was that international commerce has changed considerably since 10 or more years ago.
