So today, a cold winter day, I decided to make the most of the 3 hours of usable sunlight, and set out on a walk down Clark street with my trusty OM-4t, my Nikon SP and my wife.

The temperature was about 20F with winds of 20 mph - wind chill of about -2F or -18C.
Because of the cold, wife insisted that we walk on the sunny side of the street. What this meant is: no pictures - unless you want to point your lens directly into the low hanging sun.

Got to Wrigley Field, aimed my OM-4t at Ernie Banks. Pressed the shutter, mirror freezes in up position - battery dead. I got the mirror to descend by switching over emergency manual speed of 1/60. I have extra batteries, unfortunately they where in the OM's camera bag at home. I took out the SP and shot Ernie.

Continued down the street for blocks, trying to channel my inner Vivian Maier. Nobody is out, they are all smarter than I, warm in their homes nursing their New Year's hangovers.

A few boring shots and a few blocks further down, nearly frozen we duck into a Starbucks at Belmont. making my way to a chair with my Grande Latte in one hand and the SP in the other, someone in shorts (seems to be a he-man winter thing in Chicago) comments, "Sa-weet Camera". Now the journey is validated, I am happy.

I take a photo of the SP with my cellphone - clearly I need a better cellphone camera to take pictures of my film camera 🙂

Ha! Good story, Marc. You're braver than I am. Way too cold for me today. I did, however, take the Rollei out on Wed. night to the zoo lights ( no pictures of the lights, though, as they simply didn't do it for me ).

Haven't been back to Chicago in quite some time but I'm assuming there is a statue of Ernie at Wrigley. In terms of weather, where I live in Northern California near Sacramento, with the temperatures we've been having the last week or so, I could swear I was back in Chicago. No snow, but its been cold enough to snow on the central valley floor where Sacramento is located. The mountains up around Lake Tahoe and of course Yosemite have definitely been getting the white stuff.

We're getting lots of rain and of course the cold temperatures. I don't even want to go outside let alone with a camera. My blood has thinned since coming to California in the late '60's. I can't handle the cold like I use to.
