Sad Day for DeKalb...

Payasam makes a good point. It's just like mailing out rolls in bulk, though. I think the Tetenal was one-shot and conveient in that respect, but it's been years so I can't recall.

In your post you ask about A&I. I have used them, though not via mailers. They do a lot of business that way though. A&I is a totally first-rate outfit. Professional all the way. I trust them whether in person or by mail.

Thanks for the notes, guys. I don't see myself doing any developing other than B&W (and that will be kinda spotty) in the future, so I better teach myself to use film more responsibly.

Sometime in January I'll buy mailers from all these places (Fuji & A&I) and then... it'll be a matter of time. In the meanwhile, I have decided to do a bit more on scanning, postprocessing my stuff, playing with PS and the like. I see some nice cards in my future! :)

But not digital. I'm with Julian in that.

At least not while I'm still mourning... ;)

Yeah with E-6 i think each bath has to be within a half degree of eachother and the first and last bath need to be with in a half a degree, and if its off at all the color suffers.

Not long ago, I got an explanation about the reason my first T-Max ISO 100 shots turned out to be incredibly grainy: the water was a bit too hot.

I'd cringe to make a mistake of this kind while fumbling with transparency film!

I used both Kodak and Fuji maiers and prefer Kodak.
In terms of quality both are good but Fuji uses paper slide mounts, which are rounded in the corner of the frame, so I had to crop more when I scan the slides.

Apparently, Kodak relocated its lab.
Here's their current address:
Qualex Inc.
10501 Rhode Island Avenue
Beltsville, MD 20705

I usually send out a batch, say five rolls or more, in a package and they ship back via priority.

Hi blee017,

Does this mean you put say five rolls in a package with five mailers? I'd prefer batch shipping and am curious about the procedure you use.

Wasn't aware Kodak moved their lab to MD - my mailers get through okay to the old Fairlawn, NJ address so I presume they are forwarded. Besides, being in NY - whether it goes to NJ or MD shouldn't matter for me on the time to turnaround.

The temperature tolerance w/ E6 depends on whose chemistry you use. IIRC, w/ Tetenal it was 1 deg for developer, the other steps were mabye a bit more tolerant.

Yes, five rolls, five mailers, and a piece of paper with the return address in a package. On a per roll basis, shipping is cheaper that way, too.
I once used priority with delivery confirmation to send out a few rolls and found that they were forwarded. Using the new address would probably save a couple of days in transit.

John,

Are you talking about the $8.99 Kodak mailers sold by B&H and Adorama?
I just had my first experience with one of these mailers. I posted about it in the other E6 mailer thread:

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14743

I sent it to NJ and it came back from MD, took ten days from/to PA.

Yes, I've noticed B&H often runs specials on one or another mailer (Kodak, Fuji, A&I). I picked up a bunch of Kodak EBX when the CVS drugstores cleared them out a while ago, but with Fuji mailers at $4.25 at B&H, I should probably stock up on Fujichrome as well... on the other hand, my flatbed scanner sucks with slides...

Francisco,

$8.99 sounds a bit steep for a slide mailer so I guess what you are referring to is DP36 C-41 negative mailer. Anyways, Qualex is processing both PK36 slide mailers and DP36/DP24 C-41 mailers.

Here's what I received when I emailed Kodak about my package being forwarded.

I had this email conversation about a year ago although I sent PK36 slide mailers to the address above and received the processed slides back a couple of months ago.
If in doubt, double-check with Qualex at ordrstat@qualexphoto.com
