Tim, exactly that was already be done by Adox:
The Adox Silvermax is the original APX 100 emulsion, just with a little more silver, and coated on a clear triazetate base (therefore this film is also excellent as BW reversal film).
Tonality, resolution, sharpness, fineness of grain are all identical to the original APX 100 from Germany.
Just use it and you will be happy.

That Silvermax is a one way production. When it is finished it will be gone too. Further it is only available in 35mm.
My alternative: Fuji Acros 100 in 135-36 and 120 roll film but ...... those Fuji prices in the last years. 😱
My cheap alternative: Fomapan 100 in 135-36, 30,5m/100ft and 120 roll film.
Compared to Acros 100 the Fomapan films are half priced, at least here in the Netherlands.

Please stop telling nonsense about other companies / competitors.
It is all already in the works at Adox.
When the current production is coming to an end (that will not happen in the mid term), there will be a successor production. That was clearly communicated by Adox last Photokina.
Do yourself a favour and stop this permanent ridiculous Adox bashing. You're only hurting your own reputation with that.
And concerning Fuji Acros 100 price:
Yes, this film is a bit more expensive. But you get what you pay for:
It is the only BW film with an extremely low Schwarzschild effect, up to two minutes no exposure correction is needed.

I have been shooting some old 120 APX100 through my Plaubel Makina and Makiflexes.
I have one unexposed roll left, loaded in a Plaubel Makina 120 back. Going sparingly on that roll. All good things must come to an end.

As several others here already have explained, it is indeed the perfect replacement for APX 100.
I am not able to distinguish my original APX 100 from my Silvermax shots. And that is good 🙂.

Does the dedicated Silvermax developer really produce better results than, say, HC-110? (I like the way APX-100 looks in HC-110).

I lost the thread on the matter but a few years ago the intention of ADOX was to reproduce APX100 and 400.
They did a pilot coating for the 400 that was released in 2010, but the whole project was put on hold due to financing. The APX100 they wanted to wait until all the original Agfa stock was out as it kept prices low.
Perhaps Silvermax is one of the steps towards a new APX

Processed one of my last rolls of original AgfaPan APX-100 this afternoon, it's hanging to dry in the bathroom right now. It was an unexposed roll I found in the back of a closet. I had cut the leader down to use in a Leica iiif, a camera I sold years ago. Loaded it up in my F2 and ran it through. Processed in Adinol.
Still have a couple rolls in the freezer, all from a half a dozen bricks I bought back in 2006, (before I knew AGFA was going to go out of business).
Just love this emulsion, wish someone would reproduce it.

Still have a roll or two of APX100 in the frig...but I have been hooked on ACROS 100 for the last four or five years.....processed in either Rodinal or HC-110. I will try some of the Silvermax mentioned in this thread.

Making a real new film is very expensive especially when some basic materials are not standard available anymore.
So when this film is out of stock around 2016-2017 Impex has to find another solution.
Primary this film was meant to have a new supply of Scala film because it is used in the Impex cine cartridges too. The higher Silver content is necessary to reach a high denstity in reverse processing.
Scala and APX-100 emulsion are very simmilar, also the spectral range of these films.
The special developer for Silvermax helps to reach finer grain, higher resolution and a higher dynamic range. Most special developers in Germany are made by SPUR.
SPUR is working for every company who wants a special developer product for some reasons.

That statement is quite old and outdated now. They are already working on this solution for continuing production of an APX 100 type / Silvermax film.
Suggestion: Just talk directly to him next Photokina.

I never really used Agfa APX 100. But one weekend about fifteen years ago I bought a roll because it was the only B&W in 120 the store had. I remember really liking the pictures but they were just family party photos. Recently, I sent thru them again scanning this time. What a pleasant surprise. I immediately went to B&H to buy some only to find it was gone.
