Sadly I sold my M8

AF is fast, but only after it acquires the subject. With a fast moving child, that is the problem. But if you buy a high-end dSLR they have pretty good focus tracking for moving objects, especially the D300. That said, nothing beats a wide lens stopped down, if you have enough light to use it.

Interestingly enough, I have similar feelings and much like you, I have grown skeptical of my RF skills. Still, I’ve learned more about general photography with the M8, than with any other camera I ever owned. For this I’m grateful although I will likely be looking for something more in line with my skill level. I know that I won’t be able to capture that Leica look but still. Likewise, I need something a bit more affordable. ~
