Disclaimer: don't expect too much, the following is just Amateur Travel Photography.

Just came back from a 10 day photo safari in Tanzania (Ruaha and Selous National Parks). Mostly used TMY, plus one roll of TriX, and 3 rolls of Fuji Velvia 50 (out for development). All B+W film was shot at 400 ASA, developed in HC110(B).

Here is what I took (pretty compact setup, no tripod):

SLR: Nikkor F3 and FM, AIs 50/1.8, 100/2.8 and 300/4.5 (IF).
RF: M4P, 28/2.8 v3, Summilux 50/1.4 v2.

Obviously, some of the following results can benefit from cropping. For now, I left them mostly uncropped so you can judge distances, if you like.

Critique is of course welcome. Enjoy,

Roland.

I love the first picture, of the lion. It's a really different view than one normally sees. Good job!

Tom

Thanks, Tom and Gerry.

BTW, in case you wonder how anybody could do this without digital and color .... my better half has a great eye and competent u4/3 system:

To be followed up when she's done editing ... :)

You don't need the disclaimer about expectations and your skill level. These are quality shots--and I suspect you already know they are. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Damen, Anjoca, and Lynn.

No false modesty intended, Anjoca - I had to edit a lot. Also felt that self developed b+w only was kind of risky.

Lynn, just a note that these are Wild Dogs.

Really appreciate your comments guys,

Roland.

Amazing photos, thanks for sharing! I have a friend who goes there on a near yearly basis. As soon as the kids are old enough I plan to join one of those trips.

Thanks a lot, guys ! Kevin, good food, nice people, wife and cameras all day - I haven't had that much fun in a long time.

On the subject of wild dogs, we were thrilled to meet this pack of 7 in Selous. Here is the alpha pair:

Amazing animals, heavily threatened by extinction.

Roland.

You've done very well indeed here. It's not as easy as one might think taking animal photos on safari, largely due to not having the freedom to walk around for the best angle, never mind any other issues like the subject's movement. Well done.
Pete

Great pictures, Roland. For me, the thing that makes them more interesting than the "usual" safari shots is that they are b&w. They evoke a great feel...turn of the century Geographic, maybe.
