safe to carry the r2a on a hand strap?

Of course. I always use my R3a with a hand strap. And also my M6, CLE and Contax G1.
Even with the Nokton 50 1.1 and I feel absolutely safe.

I use hand straps on all my cameras 'cause I can't abide hanging them around my neck. However, I usually carry the camera gripped in my hand, using the strap as a failsafe.

However you use a hand strap, be careful to avoid striding along and whacking your camera into the side of a building, etc.
