Sakura/Hanami Featival in Tokyo

The Hanami Festival in Tokyo is when the cherry trees blossom in spring and is a huge cultural event where people will have all-day (and sometimes all-night) picnics in the parks.

I was lucky this year as the blossoms were slightly delayed due to cool weather and coincided with my one week visit to Tokyo.

The following pictures were shot at Ueno Park, one of the most popular places for viewing the blossoms.

Space is scarce and people are sent to the park early to book a space.

All kinds of food and drink are brought. I saw at the entrance to another park many pizza delivery guys waiting for orders to be collected.
