Sale off of Leica Factory Museum specimens

I put this seller on my "ignore seller" list when I create saved searches on Ebay. He is a total waste of my time, so I just filter out his listsings and those of a few others as well.

Nothing really exciting in that lot..............not even that M3 at what over $80,000 those guys are silly

I`m starting to really think that they are a little crazy in the head with prices they have , no one pays the amounts of money they want for cameras, (go check the Tamarkin and Westlicht auctions to get a bettr ideas of what to expect on rarer items)

Nothing PA have posted anywhere is worth what they have listed on it, not even their WW2 Grey paint cameras, some collectable items can have very unrealistic prices, sometimes, but welcome to the world of the camera collector

Why are you people passing judgement on a subject you know little about. Maybe the sale was predicated by Leitz to raise capital or just a thinning of the stuff they have. There is so much stuff around you can't save it all in house.
Another thing people worry about cost of things and raise there objections on high prices. This stuff is of historic value and is costly. Let someone buy it who appreicates fine and historic things. Most of you bi*ch over the cost of a Keiv. So why comment on an item you couldn't afford anyway. Did any of you comment on the sale of the Magna Carta in U.S. hands recently, by the way the copy will stay in the USA. I was told if you can't say anything nice don't...

Is he referring to the displays at Wetzlar and Solms? That doesn't sound right.
As far as I am informed, Mr Cohn (former Leica CEO) sold in 2002/2003 some doublets from the Leica Factory Museum magazine (stockroom) -not from display shelves- to an asian collector.
This collector seems to sell it now via the Hong Kong dependence of the Nürnberg photo dealer.
In my humble opinion it is not very wise, but I am not a friend of the nürnberg dealer selling policy.
As far as I know Leica had a passus in the contract if he is selling, it has to be first offered to Leica (in german “Vorverkaufsrecht” I don´t know the exact English word) . I think it is very interesting that Leica didn´t use it.
In Solms itself only few specimen are displayed in public . The majority of the Leica collection is in a magazine. As far as I know in the future “Wetzlar Leitzpark” a greater Museum is planned.

The scandal is that a CEO can sell such historic items from a collection . In my opinion it is high time that the Leica Collection and older parts of the Leica archive is convicted to a non-profit foundation.

Looks like a lot of has no historic value whatever. AND... I agree with others their prices are always ridiculous. But if you have money to burn , buy some of it. A chrome R6.2 for 1,800 euros? a viso 11 1 for 800 euros? Everything they list on eBay is overpriced. They have a really nice screwmount 200mm f4 on ebay for $800.00 ,about twice what they've been going for. It's been on there for months. Yea, we know what we're talking about. They're over priced, but maybe with customers like yourself, they'll actually sell some of it.

The true story of this stuff is know to a few of the true Leica Gurus. The stuff was sold several years ago to a very rich collecter in the far east. This was done to raise operating funds for Leitz during their troubles. Now the collection is being sold. The sad part as the collection was in one place now with the sale it will be in many collections but it will always surface when funds are needed. As with great art the ones who own it are the custodians for others till it changes hands and others become the custodians. Hope this answers some questions.

veraikon : Vorverkaufsrecht = in English "first dibs" or first rights of purchase in case of a resale

A few wooden models and a commendable numbers M3.....(well, ok it is the One Millionth Leica ever made - funny Leica would have given that camera up - that doesn`t make sense)
but the rest is nothing really to get excited about, as I`ve said before there`s much rarer stuff then this that they have locked up at Solms (I know of personally)
that they won`t be selling anytime soon regardless of who owns the factory

When the Ur-Leica`s brought out to sell, at like 50 million Euros - then that`s the end of the "real" museum

Tom

PS: I agree wuth you about the *non-profit foundation* while in preparing more research for the planned Leica book I`m working on - the new company owners and CEO are far harder to come to terms with than the old school who were there in the 1980`s, I hope that they can pull their head out of their *ss and make the Leica archive and museum open once again to the public, where it can be enjoyed, instead of being locked up in some dark cold vault someplace

Clearly is a subject you know very little about actually. If you did you would know that there have been numerous threads about the outrageous prices charged by this seller for items with little historical significance. They have a reputation for ridiculous prices and items that never sell. Your the first person I have ever seen even defend them, your either unfamiliar with this seller and speak out of turn or you are affiliated with them?

The seller has been running the same stuff at the same crazy prices for as along as I can remember. I don't think I've ever seen anything they offer actually sale. I just don't understand, considering the fees it costs to list this stuff, how they can year after year throw money down the toilet.

I personally know of one item sold to someone recently. And yes, their prices are crazy. Even their secondhand items are more expensive than readily available items that are new.
