By the time the camera is widely available sometime next year, the price will probably have increased to 8.5K if precedent is any indication

Well, it's not like Leica has to worry that buyers will get tired of waiting and buy a DRF from another camera company.

Companies have a variety of pricing schemes, must be difficult to try to predict and account for the variables.
Probably not very diff to predict given that Leica has decades of sales history from which to project its sales allocation. Follow the M8 sales model.

Incidentally I recently sold 3 high end Leica R mount lenses, and all the buyers came from Singapore/Hong Kong. The Australian economy is also doing rather well now, so hopefully allocation for us is up

I predict that in a few years will see digital cameras with full-frame sensors being sold in plastic packages on the racks at Target for $79.99 plus tax (they won't be called Leica however). My prediction has little to do with Leica or photography, but is an extrapolation based on the lightning fast advances in consumer oriented digital technology over the last two or three decades.

Watch that step!

Two came to sheffield and were posted out same day. There are orders for another 8 with no info on delivery dates. I think the two that came here have been exported from the UK. They were mailed without any one getting a look in.
The real question is when will a demo camera be available to try. Enough concerns have already been raised to generate caution. I did not enjoy being deceived about the M8 from a company who justify their prices on the grounds of "perfection". They have lost a lot of good will. Had the M8 been good straight up id have my M9 order well in by now. It seems increadible but it took nearly 9 months to fix the auto white ballance and IR filters on the M8! Thats less than 100% functionality for just less than 30% of its production life span! Add to that loss of 16 weeks shooting due to repairs.
I envisage quite a few corner fix and noise reduction algorithms to upload. Only after a good test run will i be able to decide if I need one. I am not going to get suckered into queuing up for one. Like the classic Who track "Won't get fooled again".

A friend tried out an M9 at the new Leica UK HQ Shop in Mayfair last week ... and they had new unreserved M9 cameras available for sale on the first day they opened - expect they will all be sold by now.

Reportedly two were in the hands of Dutch dealers and sold before they arrived at the shop. my dealer in The Hague said that he will not get another one before jan 2010.

Does anyone (local) here actually have one yet?

Might've been an idea to preorder one ages ago and sell it to the highest bidder on the 'Bay right now. Oh well.

No, from what I have heard, not all dealers are created equally, and you might have to buy bundles of other stuff, -- From what I hear, it is more of a game than might be suspected, or are you taking all this into account?

I supect if the camera had been $1500.00 more expensive there would be little difference ... Leica may have to really bump the price so they can stem demand a little and keep production up to scratch!![]()

I am pretty sure if the price goes beyond $7K it will break a psychological barrier that few will choose to pass.
