 Have a looksee at what this auction did on the evilbay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260202007759&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016

That`s got to be a record for the f1.4 50mm SC Nikkor in LTM

I have the same outfit, cept the leather case....

My lens was CLA`d by Sherry K - IS MINT/MINT MINUS with both caps and original hood and I paid only $390 so I consider myself very lucky :D

Are Nikkor lenses in LTM the next pieces of vintage photographic equipment to take off running?

As with Canon I`ve seen a raise and fall with those lenses in the past 6 months, Canon LTM is on the downslide now, (with only the f0.95 50mm, f1.5 35mm and the f2.0 100mm holding on the higher scale of prices) the f1.2 , f1.4 and f1.5 50mm`s have been on the lower end of the price scale lately so it`s time to buy them now

Nikkor lenses have been few and far between in offerings lately (the past 2 months) - and many lenses have been in only beatup "user" grade that I`ve seen on ebay (the f2.0 50mm HC Nikkor`s for example)

The f1.4 50mm SC Nikkor is a beaut and I suggest it highly in the ranks of the fast 50mm`s of the 1950`s

Same outfit here, including the leather case :) Not sure what's going on though, they used to run between 350 and 450 ....

Roland.

I wonder if this is a rear small production version of this lens. In any case, that is one happy seller.

Brian offered a good piece of advise and it helped me land my 50/2 Nikkor very price effectively.

Buy a Nicca/Tower kit.

I did for less than $300 and sold the body for a fair price and am a very happy owner of the 50/2 lens.

Well, I`ve been told this lens was produced in good numbers.....the Canon f1.5 50mm is a RARER lens in terms of production made and a lens also giving that "Sonnar" signature

I really like the f2.0 50mm Nikkor as well......nice small and compact lens with a punch, it`s got the "Summitar" glow and feel in a compacter (LOL!!!) package

Both the f1.4 and the f2.0 50mm Nikkor lenses are good choices for the LTM enthusiast

Lusting and GAS took over from common sense in this case I think LOL!!!!
(I wonder if I would sell mine with top photos and a model showing lots of skin with it if it would make $1,200- nah I ain`t sellin hahahahaha!!!!)

I think this was a case of severe lust for equipment that made this price record

It looks like a normal run of the lens. The first-run Nikkor 5cm F1.4 lenses that start with a "50" have a slightly different formula.

The lens has a lot of not commonly seen pieces with it. My Nikkor 5cm F1.4 in LTM was under $100 a couple of years ago from Midwest Photo Exchange. Those days seem to be gone.

I have both 1.4 and 2.0 but somehow I like the 2.0 better. At least, I can use the slip on leica hood with it. Anyone know an alternative hood for 1.4?

Heavystar makes a 43mm screw-in lens hood. I have a Series VI filter adapter for 43mm and a Walz vented hood for Series VI. that is my preference.

Now- for the 40.5mm lenses, the Nikon Hood for the Nikkorex 35mm camera will fit. That's what I use. Look on Ebay, no one else uses Nikkorex cameras.

The 50/1.5 Nikkor is very rare. Produced only in 1950, about 800 copies total in both LTM and Nikon-S mount. It was replaced by the 50/1.4 toward the end of the year.

Yeah, what Fred said. This example is a beautiful lens - better condition than mine - but that does not explain the 5x-10x bump over a "normal" price. Maybe the seller's comment "use it on my M8" might explain a bit of it, but why is the adapter not included in the sale? Not even an original rear lens cap.

These may be common as dirt but you just don't see that many on eBay. People must be using them. The Nikkor is my favorite lens on my IIIf, but I would probably have to part with it if someone here offered me a grand for it :D.

That's an amazing price, for sure. Is that hood rare? Maybe that helped bump things up.

It must be said that 'truly mint' is always subject to a potential price jump. Yes, one can find cheap 50/1.4s, and they did make quite a few of them, but the truly exceptional specimens are not all that common.

I think the guy is asking way to much for this lens plain and simple.
makes Kevin Li look like a discount house.

I predict this one will go way higher than the add Tom pointed out.
In paricular now that you caught attention to a badly listed, very rare
lens.

Cheers,

Roland.

yeah no chance to get this one for a reasonable price now anymore......Kevin will more than likely win this as he did the other one I tried to go after and I was beat out at like $600 - one week later he posted it on his website for $3,400!

That`s just insane, the f1.5 is NOT a shooting lens......it`s a overblown collectors piece as for USEFUL Nikkor in LTM stay with a f2.0 for $100/$150 that`s the BEST advice

If I had an Nikkor 5cm F1.5, I'd shoot with it. I'd like to see how it compares against the Zeiss lens. I suspect it is a more exact copy of the Zeiss Sonnar than is the F1.4. Probably a bit softer Bokeh. My Nicca is about the same vintage as the one in the auction, but came with a Collapsible Nikkor 5cm F2.

I suppose it was a very lucky day indeed back in 1975 or 1976 when I picked up a Canon VI-T and found a 50mm/1.4 Nikkor lens attached. I had no idea at the time that such things existed. All was not lost. There was a proper Canon 35/2.8 to go with the kit.

My lens is newer than this record setter. It has the black aperture ring. It must have been the crap Kodak Series VII filter that brought all the money. And why Series VII? My lens works just fine with Series VI filters and the Canon Series VI hood for 50mm and 35mm lenses.

There is just no telling what folks will do at ebay. I used to be one of them.

Oh, the VI-T, 50/1.4 and 35/2.8 set me back a dreadful amount of money back then. $125 USD.

what if that f 1.5 Nikkor is not any better optically then a well shimmed Jupiter 3 ?

I`ve heard it gives the same performance as the f1.5 50mm Canon does, I wanted it for a sample TEST BED and then to trade it for Canon gear, not for a keeper

I bought one for about $80 a couple of years ago on eBay -- no fancy hoods or filters, and it had some cleaning scratches, but it worked great.
