Hello all,

Just stumbled across your (our) forum, and I wanted to introduce myself. I was just given a Canon 7s with a 50/1.2 by a good friend of mine for my birthday. It’s in good and usable condition (slight cosmetics). The lens has very light scratching on the front element. The rest is clear with no fog interior. The shutter has a few wrinkles in it, but looks sound. All shutter speeds work (although 1s might be a tad long, but no hesitation.) The battery is dead EPX625. The foam seal near the hinge has turned to dust. There is no lens cap.

Any recommendations to get this camera fully functional? Does anybody have a spare 50/1.2 lens cap? or some light seal foam? or info about the battery conversion urls?

Thanks for all the previous photos in the posts.

Sincerely,
Eric Ryan, Owner

Welcome, Eric.

Joe (Backalley Joe) is pretty much the guy to talk to about Canons.
And Jan Normandale can get you some seals.

Enjoy your stay, and enjoy that 7.

Welcome, Eric!
Can't help you much with your 7, but I did check out your website, and I'm duly intrigued with your rods. A bit out of my budget, but I wish you a lot of luck!

Perhaps I'll get to see you at the Portland OR Sportsman's show in a couple months?

Cheers,
Lawrence

Hi Eric & welcome! :) First, keep that friend! 2nd, I had a Canonet CLA'd at Essex Camera Services in New Jersey and they did a great job. Your 7 would cost $130 there.

hi Eric.. interesting site you've got.. definitely 'boutique' rods.. but I suppose in line with price of bamboo sticks

let me know if you need a designer for brochures and sales collateral.. I'm sure we could work something out in trade :D

meanwhile, enjoy your stay at RFF!

Welcome, for light seals get a kit from Jon Goodman, aka interslice on e-bay. It will have full instructions and he is a great guy to deal with.

Canon 7s update...

Canon 7s update...

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I went with the 8 dollar fix. $2 for a used 55mm 1A filter, lens hood, and old Hasselblad cap from CameraArts (Sacramento). $6 for the interslice light seal kit. When I get the kit, I’ll clean the 7s up good, and run some film through it. My friend also gave me a neoprene Zing(R) camera case today. BTW he is a professional fashion and glamor photographer http://www.jeffreylujan.com/ who I have known for 7+ years. I am his PhotoShop and Darkroom guru (LightJet, BW, Color neg., offset cmyk printer, and Heidelberg Linotype/Hell S3400 drum scanner technician). He got off easy with this gift, seeing that I have given him two of my hand made fly rods (one bamboo, and the other carbon fiber HexAngler(tm)) over the past two years. And yes I intend to keep him. As far as the battery goes, I think I will try a higher voltage modern one, and re-calibrate the exposure meter with the ASA ring and my LunaPro. I can’t wait to get back into the darkroom, this digital world is so repressive and non-private at times...however, on the other hand it is great to have as many tools as possible--while knowing their attributes and limitations.

Can anybody tell me how to upload images to this forum? I think I just figured it out...

Sincerely,

Oops! Indeed, Jon Goodman is the man to talk to about seals! My mistake.
