Too many cameras
Please forgive this double-post, I don't know how many people are reading APUG as well. I posted on APUG about my latest scan of 35mm Fuji Acros negatives which have got horrible spots and water marks on them which I can't seem to get rid of.
I have cut the film into strips in order to sleeve them, but when scanning, realised that almost every frame had a spattering of white dust spots on them, resembling snowflakes. Some of my scenes even look like blizzards, and occasionally there are even strands of dust ~2-3mm long. They can't be blown off with a blower brush.
I tried using IPA on lens tissue (isopropyl alcohol) to wipe the neg surface but this did not help.
I ended up re-soaking the negatives in distilled water with a couple of drops of Ilfoflo wetting agent, and rubbed the negs gently with my fingers. This appeared to dislodge the strands of dust, but the other specks still remain, or are just moved about by this soaking. I do not understand what caused this and am concerned that the specks have somehow been "fixed" into the emulsion by the fixer.
I may have had tiny particulates in the fixer solution, however I agitated almost continuously during the 2-min fixing process so how likely is it that these particles have lodged into the emulsion?
I would welcome any suggestions on how to salvage these negs, if at all possible at this stage.
