Same camera, why?

Have you found yourself owning more than one camera of the very same model? How many? Why?

I own 2 FE2's and 2 Bessas T... My most honest reason is pure admiration!

I have two Hexars... One is loaded with color film for daytime shooting, the other is loaded with high speed or pushed B&W film for nighttime shooting.
 
But that (different films) can be done with different bodies too... And if changing lenses is the goal, it can also be done with different cameras that share the same mount... There must be a reason or several ones for owning more than one camera of the same model... Maybe we just like some cameras beyond our control...

I have two Hexar RFs, so that if one breaks I still have one (and can see about sourcing another, if the 1st isn't repairable).

Dan, this is funny! I started the thread, I mean while writing, thinking of different speed films and convinced of being rational too, and then by the middle of the sentence I just saw I was trying to convince myself! I have no real reasons: I just like cameras! :)

Two XA2s. I was trying to buy a XA on evil-Bay. I was in a hurry to get it at the buy now price before it disappeared. I raced through the purchase, then realized I bought another XA2. :bang: Then I spent more money to get the XA. :D
 
I admit it: after some years of using my first FE2, what I thought was: "What if suddenly most FE2's disappear and I can't find another one easily if mine has a problem in the future?" So I bought another one... In the case of the Bessa T, I thought just the same, but bought the second one just a few days after buying the first one... I'd also like to have a second HexarAF, a second R4M and a second R3A, but I can't spend another $2000 in them! At least for some time!

I currently don't have duplicates of any camera bodies, but I'm likely going to buy a second green-label Contax G1 to use the 35mm Planar or the 28mm Biogon side-by-side with my current G1 and 45 planar
 
I have an M4 and an M4-P. the M4-P has been modified enough that it is basically an M4 without a self timer. They both operate nearly identically and I like using two similar bodies so I don't have to change lenses.

When I'm shooting on paid assignment, it is prudent to have a backup camera "just in case". I prefer that my backup camera be identical to the main camera as it minimizes the chance of making errors when in the thick of things.
 
I've owned way, well not way, more than four doubles. I still have two Pentax P3ns and two Diacord Gs. I take them on vacation so I have most stuff the same and with the Pentax cameras two lenses, and plus two different films. Cameras are mostly the same from the late 60s so there is no reason not to double they all have the same quality now (except Hassy and Leica). Plus, as we have discussed one roll for sunny 16 and one for open shade and overcast.
 
When I find a camera that works well for me, I look for good deals on more.

Two M3s ... nothing compares
Two M6s ... .72, .85
Three F-1Ns ... motor drives have a voracious appetite.

Yeah, it's for lens interchangeability with different film loaded. And the fact that two of the same model means you instinctively use the same motions, same technique, etc. No (or at least vastly reduced) potential for fumbling.
 
Not doing paid photo work, it's hard to justify for today's excellent (and higher priced) digital bodies.

In the old days, I would buy different, not the same bodies, sort of an exploration. I had FM, then FE then FE2 and so forth. Today I have my old D70 and my current workhorse D300.

The second F4 was due to the great price and I love that body...
 
Last two years of High School I had two Nikkormat FTns. One for my 85, the other for either my 24 or my 200.

Have had two Ms, four Bessas, but have come to the realization that less is more for me.

I love the idea of a Nikon RF and a Nikon F/F2 as the perfect two camera system. A Leica M and an SL2 would be just as good but I can't afford the Leica SLR glass.
