Samsung's answer to m4/3?

The use of an EVF has allowed Samsung engineers to significantly reduce the size and weight of the new camera system by decreasing the distance between the lens and image sensor (flange back) by approximately 60% compared to traditional DSLRs. In addition to utilizing the EVF, consumers can also take advantage of the camera’s Live View functionality to frame their shots on the NX Series’ high‑resolution screen.

What is the flange distance of the new NX ?
Has anybody any information ?

Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

The camera looks ugly from the front, but nothing a bit of black tape wouldn't fix ;)

Most importantly, it's small. I hadn't realised how small it is until Mike Johnston pointed out you can see by looking at the hotshoe. On my monitor, I can hold my Ricoh GRD up to it, the hotshoes are the same size, and the cameras have virtually the same footprint!

I dont see how they could use the pentax mount lenses since they are all made for cameras that have mirrors, in other words big deep bodies which this does not look like.

I don't see what would prevent Samsung and Pentax from using a "Micro Pentax-K" bayonet mount with an 18.46mm registration distance. An easy to make adapter (think 27mm extension tube) would allow full compatibility with all those legacy lenses.

Thinking about it, I would find a Leica M mount even more useful. I have no need for autofocus or auto aperture and I can deal with closed-down metering. But, even though the Leica M mount is in the public domain, I doubt Sigma will ever use it on its EVIL camera :(.

Cheers!

With the flange-back of estimated 18mm and APS-C sized sensor, surely they will have to deal with 'rangefinder' like sensor issues. Perhaps this bodes well for improved sensors for digital RFs as well!

That new Pentax 15mm pancake lens looks tempting as well!

Where is the 18mm (or 18.46) flange distance referenced?

It's just a personal assumption. The registration distance for the Micro 4/3 mount is 20mm. If Samsung wanted to use a "Micro K mount" on a new EVIL camera, it would be convenient to use a 18.46mm registration distance, as the regular K mount has a registration distance of 45.46mm.

Cheers!

The article lists a 60% reduction in flange distance, which would make it just over 18mm.

The NX seems to be about the same width as the G1...about 6 flash hot shoes wide.

Actually, it says 60% reduction in flange back distance, which can vary with individual lenses..flange back being the distance from the rear element of the lens to the sensor.
