SamyAng 8mm fisheye for Fuji xp1

Which one, the samyang? There are three brands. All different prices but they all look like the same design?

Couldn't wait to go to the candy store huh?

samyang...I thought it was made by samyang but sold under like 3 different names...also looked at data storage but the salesman could have known a bit more...so now I need to do some more research and maybe pick one up on sunday...

yeah, it was cool buying at a store and not online...
 
I have always liked the near-far perspective with an ultra wide angle; however, rather than the Samyang, what I instead ordered was the Sigma 8-16mm rectilinear lens for the Nikon DX mount. I plan to use it with my D700 (in crop mode) and with an adapter, with my NEX6. I just got it a couple of days ago and will try to take a few captures soon to show it off. IMHO, it is a "better" lens than the Samyang, although it does cost twice as much.

But that is all we have in x mount currently 🙁.

I must admit after using the sigma lenses on the dp Merrill's, I am quite impressed w/ sigma compared to when I first tried them on a Nikon n80 way back when.

Sorry, I'm ignorant when it comes to the XP-1 mount, but aren't there adapters that adapet other mounts to the XP-1 mount? If so, then you can use such an adapter to mount the Sigma 8-16m.

But yes, Fuji xp1 has third party mounts available. Unlike the Ricoh gxr m module and the Sony Nex w/ the 16mp sensor where the micro lenses over the sensor are able to accept some very wide angle lenses such as the cv15, the Fuji x-tran was not so designed and thus has trouble when the lens gets too wide. Some of the issues can be fixed in post processing. In most cases the wide angle lenses designed for slr work tend to be ok. Not sure how wide will still work.

But for real wide like this a digital designed lens is better choice. I am not familiar w/ this specific Sigma..if it would work out. If it is af does it have manual focus ring for example.

Got it - thanks.

The Sigma is an AF lens but has an AF/M switch and has a manual focus ring.

These shots make me really want to pick up the Metabones Nikon G adapter and use my fisheye and super wides! Some lovely shots here too!

I think my Lensbaby Fisheye should give me a similar cropped look as these shots like it does on my Nikon bodies when used on my X-E2. Too much fun.

I know I also enjoyed doing perspective correction on these kinds of images to see what the results were but the curved lines and super wide bowed look to me just makes the shots, like the ones in this thread, well it makes them what they are - cool. 😀
