I am off to Texas in the first week of November. My sister's kid is graduating Air Force boot camp and the family is going to the ceremony.
I will have two or three nights to do two things: have some good/great food and hear and see some great music.
I know we have a few members here who are either from or familiar with the area, so I would like to ask them: where to go?
My hotel is on the riverwalk, but I would much rather not hang out with the other tourists.
Yes, I am a yankee but I will listen to almost any live music and I will eat any kind of food!
And, I still say "Ma'am" and "Sir" as appropriate. (in other words, I know how to act. To have fun and treat people right.)
Suggestions, folks?
Thank you!
Rob

I visited San Antonio many years ago and remember being very impressed by the Riverwalk. I've heard that it has changed a lot since I was there.
That being said, if you have a chance to visit the Alamo, it's worth a visit. It's not open in the evening, however, so you may not be able to go there. I still have images I took of the Alamo using APS transparency film back in the 1970's. I found them recently when going through the things in a spare room.
The Alamo struck me as being very small. It's large in everyone's imagination (for those who haven't been there) but comparatively small in real life.
Whatever you do, have a good trip and enjoy the mild November weather.

If your hotel is on the Riverwalk, then having so many places within walking distance will be hard to beat. There are restaurants and bars to suit every taste around the Riverwalk. If you want a real Texas barbecue experience, I'd suggest driving out of town a little ways to Texas Pride BBQ on a Friday night when they have live music and dancing. Definitely the night to go is when they have live music. Great photographic opportunities, too.
