OK, it seems as if the poll has spoken and we’ve got Sunday November 14th as our day to visit the SF MOMA for the HCB exhibition “Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century”.
Where: SF MOMA
When: 11AM
After the museum visit I thought we all might be hungry and I was thinking a visit to the exceptionally weird Eddie Rickenbackers’s Café on 2nd might be fun! We could go there, have a few beers and then spread out to shoot frames for the “Decisive Challenge”.
The what??
I thought that a worldwide day shooting the style of the old master might be in order. Being as we were already planning on being saturated with HCB for the day I am organizing a competition for photo’s in the style of the master.
I’ll put up challenge rules and details in a separate thread but I can tell you that you can shoot whatever you want, as many frames as you like, at any time on the 14th. Day, night, morning, evening, doesn’t matter. You pick the time and lighting that’s right for you.
Anyway….
Let me know your thoughts on having some post-show beers/lunch or, if you would prefer, we could get lunch first.
Should be fun!

Kent,
Thanks for setting this up. I'm going to try to make it ... if I can dodge the daughter's ice-skating birthday party that day!
Lunch before or after is fine with me.
Did HCB ever touch an M5? I want to be authentic on this oh-so-special day.
Cheers,
Jamie

They sent him nearly every camera they made, I'm sure he at least fondled it a bit

I have no rangefinders at the moment, but I am in the bay area and would love to go.

No one will hold that against you -- most of us dabble (to lesser or greater degrees) in other image capture systems too.
If you show up and are willing to talk photographs and/or camera gear, you'll fit right in.
(Enjoying beer is a plus, but not strictly necessary for full "membership" in this dubious "club".)

deirdre, you'll actually be more respected in the group if you don't have a rangefinder.
But Kent will be giving away his Perar 35mm lens (Perar triplet), so if you win it when we draw straws, you may need to get a camera body to put it on.

Kent, thanks for setting this up. I'll be there for sure. Now should I go with M or Barnack?
No RF, no problem! I brought a friend of mine with gigantic Pentax 6x7 to our last meeting.

Oh, now that just is adorable.
(I have an LTM adapter for my GF1/E-PL1, but that doesn't really qualify, does it?)

I will try to make this event. As for camera(s) in the style of HCB, that could include P&S too, which he used near the end of this life.
I'll bring my IIIc for old times sake... and maybe something else a little newer....

Deirdre- You are absolutely welcome to come regardless of what kind of camera you use, welcome aboard!
As excited as I was to give away my new Perar I am even more excited by Mike's offer, which is now the official prize. What is it, you may ask?
The challenge winner will, thanks to Mike, get an all expense paid dinner at Boulevard, one of the finest restaurants in the city. In addition, Mike himself will doing his famous "Dance of the Seven Veils" at dinner, the very same dance he performed for years on Broadway (SF). Please PM Mike for details and bring a good stack of dollar bills for his performance!
In addition I believe Mike is buying all of our tickets for the HCB exhibit. Thanks Mike, you're the BEST!

All,
Here's a link to the challenge for the day. Should be fun and I'm trying to get many people from around the world to participate.

I'm going to try to make this too, but something tells me that'll be my second visit by that time of the month, heh.

Mes amis,
Just saw this and I am "in." Bingley and I can work out travel plans. Lunch before or after is fine by me. As for which cameras, hmmmmm...this could take a while. The word "Canon" sounds so much more French than "Leica" but I suspect I must bring Leica gear to be in full HCB mode and mood.
Jamie-do you have any cameras left to bring? You have redefined "purge."
As always I am looking forward to seeing all who can make it.
A bientot,
Bob

Bob,
I look forward to seeing you and Steve, should be fun! Camera choice is tricky, though the Perar will be in the bag so you guys can tinker a little. I might even go Barnack, though I'm an "in-camera meter guy" by nature.
Talk to you soon!

Look forward to attending.
I've seen Mike's dance, btw. It's a tired act. I do think it was pretty cool that he lent his rhinestone-encrusted thong to Aubrey Huff, though.
The Challenge sounds like fun, as well. Thanks for putting this together, Kent.

I hope you can make it, even if it's visit #2. We should have a great time and there are some other cool exhibits at the MOMA if you don't want to partake in HCB fever that day.
Seeya there!

Kent, I told you about the new name last week. To keep it fresh, it is now the "Dance of the Eight Veils (and one ball gag)". I like to push the envelope, ya know?

Hey, what can I say, Aubrey is a good tipper!
I'm going to bring Mongo (Razzle 4x5) with 2 grafmatics. People say it is the wrong tool, but screw them and the tiny small format horse they rode in on. Most importantly, I'll have only 12 crappy photos at the end of the day. But they'll be big.

Sounds good, Mike, but please leave the Thunderbird at home. You know what happened to the portrait on the last meet...

Thank goodness we don't have inline image capability in this club (reminder all, please email the head bartender about this as other clubs have it) or we'd be seeing that fine portrait again.
