Just in case you missed his postings here on RFF, be sure to check out Vince Lupo's "Mapping the West" project, Vince Lupo’s Mapping the West - Direction One Inc | Direction One Inc . Most of it was shot in NM, and perfectly captures the beauty and the strange, loopy quality of this place.

I am well acquainted with the missteps of the past and present, and know too well that they span the political spectrum from far Right to far Left. I'm not advocating for a Glorious Utopia of any sort, since those are inevitably a one way ticket to a Gulag. I'm advocating for a human-centered, sustainable society of care, compassion, and respect, something that seems to be nearly impossible under Globalist corporate capitalism. Does anyone think that the aim of worldwide consumerist glut can be sustained, or is even desirable? What are the costs even in its present limited incarnation?

Glad to see you're not intimidated by San Francisco de Asis! It's been made so iconic by Strand, Adams, Gilpin, etc. etc. that I feel like there's nothing left to say, and no matter how many times I've been by there, my camera stays in its bag. Your photo is a bit of a kick in the pants (and in color, too!), so next time I'm in Taos, I just may have to give it a try. Then on to Hernandez, to catch the moonrise!

I suppose I should have expected Hernandez to be bleak because it was. Totally unrecognizable from when the great man make the Click. But it was an experience to have driven past……

Just went searching for a modern image of the famous spot. So overgrown with trees now as one would expect 80 years later. And the church has a tin roof now. Take a look here…..
