saturday morning market

Joe, you're holding out on us! You only posted the last two (the arched eyebrow ladies) to our blog, but I actually like all the other shots more :D.

I especially like the colors in your compositions. Your subjects are very well integrated into their surroundings' colors, good eye!

Great work! :)

Apart from being good compositions they are brilliantly processed.
Would you care to divulge with which program/how you do it?
After moving to LR I cannot seem to get anything close to what I used to get in PhotoRAW.
Not even when exporting tiffs from PhotoRAW :bang:

However, after almost loosing track of my photographs I had to get some kind of handle on them.

cheers

i have never been accused of 'brilliant processing' before...
i use photoshop elements 8
i use levels mostly and move the sliders till i like what i see
i use unsharp mask but at low amounts...can't remember them atm, but they stay the same for every image i process.
a little cropping at the edges if needed...that is it.

I somehow missed this thread till now but I must say you've got a nice mix of images. My wife and I make a point of hitting Strathcona at least once every time we visit Edmonton. Of course we're usually there when the weather is much nicer and people don't dress so funny. I love the atmosphere of the place; people are very friendly for a big city location--although I must say that I've had a few of the vendors shoo me away when I try to take pictures of their wares...

i show up every saturday and walk about and shoot at will. most folks are fine and just ignore me if they notice me. sometimes i'm asked what i do with the images, one vendor uses a shot of her on her website, gratis.
it's a good place to shoot, especially in winter when it's too cold for outdoor treks.

Oh, yeah, the vast majority of the people there are very warm and friendly. I think markets like this are a great way to break down the "big city" imposed barriers that tend to keep people apart and keep them from socializing. The early agrarian markets were "the" social link between people in many communities...
