Saul Leiter RIP

Sad to hear this. I was at his small London exhibition recently and his assitant and the curator mentioned how much material they had to go through to get things together. Good to see he had some recognition. I for one really admire his work.

Wow. Just as his movie is coming out and he was finally getting the more widespread recognition he deserved in my mind. Very sorry to hear this.

Very sad News indeed..
Just heard him recently on the radio / wnyc Leonard Lopate show...
was he crabby But funny too

RIP eternally shooting

From what I've read about him and things he's said, I think he appreciated the attention but wouldn't have minded if he was left alone either. Maybe that's my impression

"In order to build a career and to be successful, one has to be determined. One has to be ambitious. I much prefer to drink coffee, listen to music and to paint when I feel like it."

“I’ve never been overwhelmed with a desire to become famous. It’s not that I didn’t want to have my work appreciated, but for some reason — maybe it’s because my father disapproved of almost everything I did — in some secret place in my being was a desire to avoid success.

It is always sad to lose one of the giants of the photography world.

Judging from what I have read, Saul Leiter lived a long, rich and full life, had many friends and photographic colleagues, was well traveled and well read, had many lovers and collectors of his work. He is noted for his quick wit and sense of humor and for being an enjoyable person to be in the company of.

In a nutshell, his was a life well lived, and a life with few if any regrets. If any of us can do half as well, we should be able to transit to our next plane of existence with a heart filled with happiness and satisfaction.

Rest easy, Messr. Leiter.
