Saving Elitechrome 100: Here is the chance!!

Hi friends,

there is a lot of dissappointment because Fuji's decision to stop Sensia 100 / Astia 100F production, and recently Kodak's decision to stop production of Elitechrome 100.

I think we are often to passive if such things happens. We have to stand up!
There is no guarantee of being succesful, but we have indeed positive examples in the past: When Fuji discontinued Velvia 50, they earned a massive protest bei Velvia 50 shooters, and because of this decided to reintroduce this film.

If you fight, it is possible that you loose.
But if you don't fight, you have already lost!!

Let's fight!!!
Let's fight for Elitechrome 100!

Elitechrome 100 is also one of the most popular films used by low-fidelity shooters and lomographers.
And they have already started a campaign we definitely should support and join in!!

As the lomography movement is so huge and powerful, a campaign supported by them has indeed a good chance to be successful.

In the link above you find several adresses to contact Kodak, globally and in your country. Directly or via social media like facebook.
Get in contact with Kodak, write them that they should change their decision and continue to produce Elitechrome 100!!

The times of silently accepting the manufactureres decisions are over.
Now it is time to fight for our interests, for our films!!

Kodak is trimming film lines so that they can keep producing other films. Better to lose some favorites in order to keep film around for a bit longer, no?
 
Just buy a roll of E100G and shut up. Otherwise, it will disappear, too.

Chuck, I am using E100G regularly. I even prefer it to Elitechrome 100 because of its higher dynamic range and more precise, neutral colors.
Nevertheless I like and use Elitechrome 100 for some applications.

And: I think Elitechrome 100 is important for the market
- as film for beginners in transparancy photography (especially because of its lower costs)
- as favourite film for the lomographers who really love this film.

I am convinced that there is a market big enough for both films in the future. The demand for this film from lomographers is significantly rising.
Probably there will be a problematic time for about the next two years, until the demand from the low-fi / Lomo movement is big enough to support the production alone.
This film can be a real keeper in the future. I think Kodak needs a bit patience now for a limited time frame and a closer view to the currently evolving market segments.
And there is really big power in the low-fi movement.
Further I see photographers returning to slide projection after very dissapointing experiences with the low picture quality of beamers.

don't you think there was already a chance to save it but instead we bought other films. the fact it's gone is the consumers fault, i don't think it's fair to put the blame on kodak.
 
We are indeed voting with our wallets. As there are less and less film shooters, we will have to learn to live with smaller film selection. Sad but unavoidable. We can not force Kodak (or Fuji) to keep producing some particular film if it does not produce profit. All I hope that once we are down to very few color films, at least those will make enough profit to stay on the market.
 
I'd sign a petition gor Astia but Elitechrome? There's no sense in signing a petition to save something I'm not going to buy.
