camera I've ever seen. Last week I was in Santa Fe New Mexico and found this little Mom and Pop Camera Store. In a glass case was mint Contax rangefinder camera, it looked unused with the original box and paperwork. It's for sale but I was afraid to ask the price.

WTF? :D Pullin our legs? You come here telling about this great find of yours, don't provide pics, no specific descriptions of the camera model, lens type, etc...

Guess I'll have to contribute an ugly Contax III to the cause... cut it some slack, it was on a U-boat sunk in WWII (scroll about halfway down, you'll see it there):

LOL Danny!

LOL Danny!

It's the real deal, I should have taken a photo of it. it actually looks like it's never been handled. I didn't see the boxes, she has them put up in the back. She said an old customer gave them the camera.

I don't know a lot about the Contax cameras but it wasn't the one with that light meter on top.

BTW Michael... you never replied to my PM...

Oh, and it sounds like you ran into a Contax II or IIa. Chances are it's a IIa, as a "mint-in-box" 1930s Contax would be a very rare find indeed.

Crap Danny, I just looked up and saw that I had one. I had misread it. I'll check it now. It's not there, wonder if I deleted it by mistake. Resend it.

I like the Contax´s and all other rangefinders copied from them, Nikons, Kievs et al. Exqueese my French, but they are far better looking than the LTM Leicas....... (flameproofing on)

Daddy used to say - "He who hesitates - is lost!";)

Hmmm, this is starting to sound like those letters to Playboy .... ;)

Do you mean the ones that start something like " I am a pool cleaner and I just wanted to tell you about something that happened to me last week when I went to the house of a beautiful 32 year old rich widow. She and her equally beautiful blonde girlfriend were laying on a sun-lounge drinking margaritas when one of the suggested..............................." ?

A mint Contax II would be my dream camera , but I am concerned at putting more mileage on my almost unused KNeB II of 1952 - contemporary with a Contax IIa LOL .
Let alone a sleeping classic !

MY respectfully tired 1951 KNeB II is OK to use though - as is my Contax / Kiev II rescue camera .

So, a week has gone by and there's still no information on the store, the camera or the price.
Time to settle down guys - this could be just pulling your chain.

Do you know Mr. Harris? I highly doubt he is pulling anyones chain... Some people are busy and just don't post every other hour at RFF.

Well for your info I called every camera store in Santa Fe today. What was for sale was a g2, 28 2.8, 45 2.0 and a 90 2.8. Sold last week for $600.00. Also had the Contax leather case. Somebody got a hell'va deal
