Scanning at local store issues..suggestions needed....

My Epson 550™ is just not cutting it. And I'm not going to invest in Anti-Newton ring glass for it either.

Fred Meyer (NW chain store). Can't scan my LegacyPro™ 100 film for anything. Either side and from either end. Will NOT scan. Using some kind of Fuji system...not as new as CVS Pharmacies have. Produces errors like "too much tape or ripped negative"

And they will not / cannot adjust settings on the machine...(even though I've showed them printouts for adjusting for my half-frame negatives.)

Soo...anyone have ANY idea why these machines can't scan (and suggestions for helping my store buddies out) and any suggestions of places that might be able to do the job in the NW?

Rather NOT spend $8-12/roll for Prec Scanning or some other boutique...until I have to 🙂

If I use them, I go with CVS, as they have the Kodak machines. I also get the Kodak cd when getting scans, as it's about twice the resolution of their store brand scanning. But then, I haven't taken a roll of Ilford to them just for scanning, but have had no problems with BW400CN. I'd rather use the local pro lab all the time, but they are eight miles away, and CVS is only a mile and a half distant. And as long as that one jerk isn't working the machines, I get decent service.

If you're in the Pacific Northwest, go to Costco, which use Fuji machines, I believe. They may tell you they can't single out half frame, but they're misinformed. Tell them to set it on "135H" -- I've done it many times, at different Costcos, some of which insisted they couldn't. You'll be good to go. Otherwise, have them scan the whole 36X24 frame, with two half-frame pics per frame. Then take your CD home, upload the images, and create an extra copy of each. Crop the first frame for picture 1, and crop the second frame for pic 2, using whatever photo program you have (I use Picasa). Works great.
