Hi Johnny,
I'm glad you posted this thread. I have the same effect with 100 Reala and my 5000 ED. I always thought it was a general scanning problem. Here you can see an example (a recent lens test, Vuescan, no ICE, obviously):

I have to try different film and see if it changes. Thinking about Ektar or so.
Cheers,
Roland.

Sorry, let's try like this: go to http://ferider.smugmug.com/gallery/7684298_akzT6, to the last picture, and when selected, pick the largest size ("O"). When you scroll down you can see the same white pepper noise, I believe.

so, superia seems to be slightly better, but the effect is still visible in my opinion.
but to be honest if have looked at to many scans the last days...
below is a sample-scan of superia 200. left w/o ICE, right w/ ICE.
have a look at the roof. the effect is mostly visible in darker areas (pink specks).
dfoo, do you have vuescan or silverfast?
if so, it would be great if you could scan another reala-pictures (best from a different roll) at 4000dpi and without any corrections.
thanks

I have just scanned some reala again from my last home development batch. This time I used no ICE and there is a the phenomenon discussed here. However it goes away easily with ICE and then the picture is very much grain free.

I use vuescan for black and white, and nikonscan for color. I'll scan some more reala and post for you.
