Scanning half frame negatives

I'm having some problems with my CanoScan 8800F when I load the film holders with stripes of film from an 1/2 frame camera.
The first frames show double pictures, as expected, but the frames in the midddle of the stripe are cut (one central picture complete plus one mutilated picture in each side). I use the original software from Canon.
Is there any way to prevent/correct this ?
Will a different software solve the problem ?

Were you using Epson software? 😀 I have the same problem trying 645 on my Epson 4870, and even sometimes with 6x6. Also with 4 frame strips from the local CVS.

I understand Vuescan doesn't need the plastic masks needed by the Epson software. Maybe it will help in your case. More experienced users should be able to tell you for sure.

I use the original software from Canon. The Canon film holders do not have plastic bars separating the individual frames from the same film stripe, so the software is supposed to separate the (35 mm) frames, but seems unable to detect the separation between smaller frames...
If I cut the film in small pieces with two frames each, no problem, but this is not a convenient option for me.

If you use Vuescan you can use it without automatic frame detection, which is easy. I think it has options for half-frame automatic frame detection too, but I find it easier and more accurate to do frame detection manually, half-frame or not.

Vuescan has not worked with the 8800 if you are using a 64bit version of Windows up until now. (The new beta version does) That is why I bought Silverfast about six months ago when I got the 8800.
The interface to Silverfast is annoying, but the results are much better than the stock Cannon software. However I have to select the frames manually for my stero format slides. The 5-perf and 7-perf frames will not select automatically.
I have also scan the odd sized frames with the Cannon software, but again I had to select the frames manually. I don't remember what I did to get it in that mode (it was not obvious), but it can be done. The second time I called up Canon tech support I got someone who was surprisingly helpful. The first time the guy had no clue.
