Too saturated, huh? Hmm. Were you doing any adjustments in Vuescan? I am scanning completely linear and get a resulting DNG that is very dark and flat.

Okay, so I'm getting improved results using the Lock Exposure feature on Vuescan.
What are the up and downsides to using the Lock Film Base feature? When activated, I appear to be getting images out of the scanner closed to correct white balance, but I don't want to be doing anything destructive to the RAW data.

I have nothing to add, only to say that this has Been the the most informative thread on scanning with vuescan in a long while. I'm quite jealous of your scanning output mafoofan. it's usually tears, blood and heavy lifting in photoshop to get anything to come out half decent from my Polaroid sprintscan when it comes to c-41.

The scans look great to me even though I scan mine as TIFF rather than DNG. I then adjusted the white balance and tone curve in lightroom (the color on negative film never came out right for me).
As for Clancycoop's comments, I agree with what he said, even though that's not what mafoofan asked for.

Some thoughts regarding "TIFF DNG" vs. "RAW DNG":
