So I got my hands on some beautiful Kodachrome 64 and I have an issue with scanning and file size. The file size scanning with Silverfast and my Minolta 5400 creates downsized 48>24 bit 500 Meg sized files. When I scan negative film, I get 120 Meg files at best.

I can easily open the file in my default windows photo viewer but when I try to open these large files in Adobe Image Ready, they just hang up. I tried to reconfigure my 360 GIG USB drive to accept large file but I have had no luck.

If I want to save all the data in these large files, is there a work around for getting Image Ready to open 500 meg files or do I have to lower the resolution when scanning slide films?

That must be one impressive Minolta - I need a Coolscan 9000 to wring 1GB out of 6x9 slides, at 48+16bit (including the IR error channel). You are probably scanning to some excessive output resolution, so that you end up with scans beyond the scanners physical input resolution.

I agree. 500 megabytes from a 24x36 frame at 24bit is not 5400 dpi.
I get only about 70 megabytes at 3200 in 48-bit. 500MB would be 6x9 frames at 48 bit and 3200dpi which i rarely do.
