Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago i bought a second-hand Epson Perfection 1650 Photo to scan my negatives. I did some scans with Vuescan but the results were disappointing. I tried a demo version of Silverfast but the results were not any better. I compare the results with the scans they gave me from the shop where i developed the films and mine look out of focus , with burned whites and "un-natural-looking" blacks.
Is there something wrong with the settings? Which program do you use ?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Both programs should do the trick for you. Sounds like the film is not lying flat and you are not setting black and white point correctly. Can you maybe post some examples of scan results in combination with a screen shot of your settings? Without more information impossible to help you I am afraid.

Problem solved.
I downloaded the latest drivers and Epson Twain 5 seems to perform much better.
Thanks for the reply though.

After trying both Silverfast and Vuescan, I liked the results I got from my Epson 2450's Epson created scanning software better. I sure others will have the opposite view, but the factory software works for me.

Is it the Epson TWAIN 5 software you are referring too?

It turns out that it is version 2.7. I've just downloaded the v5, and will see how it does.
(I'm using Photoshop CS2 on Mac OS 10.6.4)
